Title: How long have you owned your current VW? Post by: Donny B. on July 02, 2009, 15:26:27 pm This month makes 25 years that I have owned my '66 Bug. I bought it after going 10 months without a car and have put over 250K miles on it since buying it. It has a bunch of wear and tear, but it has been my best friend for all of that time...

When I got the car in the summer of 1998 it was painted two-tone, was lowered all around and sported 5.5" and 7" widened steel rims with low profile tires. Some months later - after working for 6 weeks in the nightshift in the Volkswagen factory as a student - a was able to buy what was my favorite wheels back then (beside Centerlines which unfortunately wouldn´t be legal in germany): fully polished fuchs (or alloys for you americans ;)). The lady I bought it from told me it was called 'Alfie' and it liked chasing campers vans. I have put over 90k on it and still drive it all the time. I bought my '63/'73 in November 2002 when it was all '73, sold it to my brother in January 2003, bought it back from him in summer 2004 after he wrecked it and we put the '63 body on, sold it back to him in winter 2004, and bought it back from him again in August 2006. I february 2007, my fiance and I bought a '74 Acapulco Thing.

Thats not counting the ex`s 63 15 window I built and my Wife`s 72 bug, 66 bug and 66 Kombi. And out of those years and cars I`ve only owned one non VW. That was my 66 Nova wagon. I think I get bored with one and want something different and usually need to sell one to get the next.

I think this one will be staying for long time, as I always wanted an Oval and I always wanted a quick bug... I promised myself I wouldn't sell this one and its survived past the high-tide mark of 12 months, so it looks like the start of a long relationship... My camera batteries were dead when I got there, but luckily the seller had his camera and emailed me a couple pictures. It would have fun to have some more shots from the trip home, like after climbing the Blue Mountain range with that rig...wasn't sure it was going to work out... I got it first in summer 1978 -- it was stolen in 81, rebuilt & drove from 82 - 87. It has had 14x5 1/2 alloys & 2110 --- and stock 1600 single port with american 5 spokes. This time around it will have stock wheels until I get some BRM's or repop torkers. So, all in all I've had my car 31 years !! My youngest son came home from his birth in this car. You jinxed Yourself into selling it didn't you ;) :D I have owned my present bay since Feb 08 Not Long, But my 1776cc Engine is now almost 6 years Old has pushed me and my bay WELL into the 16's, it's covered well over 60,000 Miles, got me up the 1/4 mile probably on 100 passes or so, Oh and it's still on the same pushrod tubes, it's never been apart! Post by: youngnstudly on November 20, 2009, 06:20:53 am Wow, I did the math and I have owned my '63 bug for 14 years (this june). I bought it at the age of 12 and will be 27 in july. Car has over 128,000 miles on the same engine and a freebie transaxle that has needed a 2nd gear synchro since the day I installed it :D. I've been rear ended 6 times, front ended twice (backed into) and aquired numerous dents and dings over the years. "Rusty" (my car) still has the same old paint and primer spots, the same (real) 356 rims with nipple caps, and the same 18" section of floorpan completely rotted out between the battery and the pass. seat :o. Somethings never change! 8) I'd have my dad paint it, but then it wouldn't be a driver...Plus nobody would recognize me in it after all these years of it being a junker!

Two weeks later it was lowered, running on original BRMs and had an EMPI GT woodrim and EMPI E-Z-R shifter and was on the VolksWorld Magazine stand at Bug Jam.
The original owner had it for 25 years, I have had it for 18. I am really looking forward to being able to say I have owned it 25 years now. Title: Re: How long have you owned your current VW?
