We had already begun assembling the motor when I decided to check it out, and it's a good thing we did. After a LOT of lifter shuffling we got the 3-4 case half to nearly acceptable figures, .049" to .064". Both intakes were tighter than the exhausts(?). Decided to check on the 1-2 half and came up with very different numbers... After even more shuffling, the best numbers we could come up with was #2 intake and exhausts are a close .048"-.053", but the #1's are a tight .029"-.034" :( What would you do? (what I want to hear is that we can have a little taken off the tops of the #1 lifter bores and call it a day ;)) Thanks! Title: Re: Cam to Lifter Clearance Post by: Fastbrit on July 09, 2009, 16:28:11 pm That would be fine and dandy. As Richie says, anything is enough, but I prefer to allow around 40thou, although there isn't really any reason why! For peace of mind, mill #1 and have done with it... :)

Berg sells a cutter you can run in a drill press or even a hand drill if you're careful. Most high perf lifters are already thinner on head. Are you guys using stock VW lifters or Mahles or something? Title: Re: Cam to Lifter Clearance Post by: Zach Gomulka on July 09, 2009, 18:09:46 pm Stock VW (Brazil, I think).
