Title: getting CB H beams apart Post by: Jonny Grigg on July 18, 2009, 18:11:40 pm These days I am not embarrassed about asking dumb questions.... maybe I should be ::)
Anyway, it has been a while since I have built an engine, and the last one I did I don't remember my H beams being such a bitch to get apart. These are fresh out of the box and the 5/16" bolts were done up really tight- once I shifted them I cannot get the bottom cap off. Any hints and tricks? i don't want to brutalise them. thanks J. :) Title: Re: getting CB H beams apart Post by: Peter on July 18, 2009, 18:25:24 pm i unscrew the bolts a bit and tap them slightly with a hammer with a small amount per time...

That's exactly how I get mine apart.Title: Re: getting CB H beams apart Post by: Jonny Grigg on July 18, 2009, 19:32:21 pm Thanks guys, I was just a bit conerned about doing that in case it damages the threads.

Any more and you could possibly damage the threads in the cap or the bolts. You won't need a 5lb sledge hammer, a small dead blow or small ball peen hammer is plenty to do the job without damage.
