Now, i'm just wondering what if you post just one pic here of which you think it shows the whole attitude of what your cal-looker is about...

Damn, that photo of John Lazenby's Butternut is bitchin! I recall seeing that Bug parked in front of the Buena Park Auto Haus for years. And it always looked that clean....even on Beach Blvd., and in Buena Park! Too bad HVWs never shot that car while it was still around. Just look at the depth of that paint job!

Here is one of my old '67 from Bug-In 14, taken April 1975. Notice the one-piece windows.

Wow, that's a early one-piece picture Deano! With a bullet mirror and cal-look rubber, that thing is full blown! Just the look I'm going for.
I have to admit that I would have guessed a newer date on that picture  :-X

Thanks for the nice comments about my old '67. The "Cal Look" rubber was actually OEM stuff with the trim removed, as was the running boards. I found the Talbot mirror and Mota Lita steering wheel at MG Mitten back in '74. Now about the window glass. We all talked about one-piece windows for years, but even Leonard Becker and son Jim (Becker's Paint) could not figure out how to make them work. Somewhere along the line, I heard of Frank's Glass in Bellflower, and called them. They had it figured out, so the car went down there just prior to the April '75, Bug-In 14. I wasn't the first to have them on the street, but I was at a Bug-In. At that same Bug-In, the car finished second out of 54 cars in Semi-Custom (then owned by Julie Martin). Jim Larsen's brother Gary, won the class with the Squareback Panel conversion.

I drove this car for about 4 years, about 20,000 miles, mostly to and from Fullerton college, work and F&A. During the majority of that time, the DDS wheels were on it, and I never had a problem. The only other car that had DDS wheels on the street was Bobby Chapman (Ghia roadster), or at least, in southern California that I saw. BTW, my new car will have two of my original DDS wheels on the front!

This car always had the original stock '67 tranny, which never came out for any reason. The engines ranged from a 1600 with a Holley, to an 1835 with a Holley, to dual IDAs, and finally, a 1700 with IDAs and a 110, when the H case gave up the rear galley plug. While I did show it a lot, it never saw the drags. I sold it with a fresh stock 1600cc, for $1800 in February 1975, in the condition shown in that photo. sob, sob.

nope, we are still searching and looking for it. the twinz say that everyday passed brings them closer to the day they will find it.

I like this one of my 63 taken at Stonor Park this year, clear blue sky (ish), warm weather, a cool relaxed show with good friends... roll on the summer!

Maybe it's the angles of the photographs but the front fender looks like the "corners" are pulled out.

Actually i have noe clue, but i will check i tomorrow or sunday. I have fat lip in the back and thin lip in front, so i think they might have diffrent ET.

Those inspection openings are actually "filtered induction"..... And yes, we shaved nearly everything that could be shaved and then some (inside and out, and under the hood).

Interesting, what are you using for filters? You must need a lot of air for your engine, lots of cc and high rpms?

I'm using K&N (low profile/thin line) motorcycle Power Lids Filters for the side openings.... But there is something else going on in that photo.....

Yes, flush-mounted, carbonfiber, NACA ducts that tie into the engine compartment....

Then why does the "naca duct" hole go all the way inyo the interior ?

Lookin Good  8) but have you ever thought about Buggy bars  ??? :)

That is because there is an access panel that is used to install the NACA ducts, internal air boxes and tubing. Once all that crap is in place, I will foam the area solid, then place the access panel covers on for good. Headliner then goes in, and you won't see anything from the inside of the interior. From the engine compartment side, if you stand on your head, and look up, you will see a new bulkhead corner plate(s), with a 1-1/4-inch tubing running from the airboxes down, to the engine room. Once the 48s are in place, these bulkhead plates will be super hard to see. This is kinda like a disco version of the old scoops that were rage decades ago, except these will be flush-mounted with a painted edge.

About the "bumpers". Since I had one of the first pairs of Mike Libey T-bars in '74, I will again, have aluminum "hex" T-bars, this time, made by FAT themselves. Old School all the way.

I think your exhaust must have fallen off driving that thing to the staging lanes !  :P

Hell, that is the first time I've ever seen that particular car with a rear window fitted! Was that an option for a Euro '67?

This picture is by Tero (thanks!) and one of the few I have got of my car. A 1960 model built in 1996/97 and driven and driven ever since. Initially built with a 2100 ccm 48IDA Type ... ehm .... "not 1"-motor. Swapped to the world's most reliable 1915 the year after (thanks Kvikk Service!) and now a fresh 2170 is soon to go in, and that will be it for upgrades for da "Old Faithful".

Leagal street racing....told the story awhile ago.........cool place, lots of people and a group of franticly wawing police man at the end of the track thinking car was too fast ;D   Ended up in the local newpapers that attended and televison and there was this guy who even made a radioprogram about the DBR and my car :o

Its a britax sunroof, fitted in the early eighties in LA but needs a little resto, the guy before me fitted it with some heavy duty material and the weight ripped the lining, but it still fits real good - apart from when it cam flyin off at 80mph on the motorway ;D  it was the car equivelant of the guy with the hair in the hamlet advert :D

Dont know why they are that short. Bought from BAS for the conversion 

I'm suprised Alex hasn't popped a type 1 motor in there Ron  ;D

he has tried but my budget is a little maxed out at the moment, new car early last year, extension at home and new business starting in 8 weeks doesn’t leave to much to spend on the bug at the moment.  :(

Still, stashing away a few quid a month should see a nice new motor and trans for the car next year which would be cool.

I Just want it to see it finished now, although I think Alex doesn’t want to get it out of his workshop as he won’t have anywhere to put his cups on. I’ve joked I’ll have to buy him a coffee table when it finally leaves the shop. ;D

Perhaps you can all give him some stick to get it finished, still he’s probably to busy now doing personal appearances now he's a big TV star ;D ;)

I'll grab his autograph tonight at the club meet, that's if he's not forgotten his friends now  ;D

Sarge, the bodyshop did a great job masking off your lenses for the paintjob!  But for future reference, the trims come off with one screw—you don't need to paint over them.   ;D

As always when I`m love I`m a little blind.... had a new look today and I`m still in love but this time I noticed the modern looking rear tires. If you had changed them to a more old-school looking tire your car would be dam close to perfect.

we made a bracket from an old 67 catch by weling a tab to the bottom of the catch for the rubber stopper to sit on and then bolted it to the valance through the original bracket using locking nuts

if you use two 1 1/2 inch pieces of tubing and longer 6mm bolts between the latch and the apron it will hold the deck lid open at the bottom and it will latch like stock and you can even lock the lid

Thats cool but I just get some long bolts and some tubing and space the striker plate out from the apron.

Bryan, doesn't the decklid rattle when you just use long bolts?
If I remember, the decklid latch is designed to have the hook "loaded" against the rubber bumper so that it's solid and rattle free.

Mine never rattled. Neither the 64 or the 67.

That is one of my alltime favorites of my car! Picture stolen at Pims VW Shows-Page. The stance is right, the way the front wheels tuck under the fender, I am happy with it!

Here's my favorite picture of my car.  It was taken outside of Silverton Colorado in '97 when I drove to the Denver Bug-In at Bandeimere Speedway.  That was a great trip.  My wife rode the train in the photo from Durango Colorado to Silverton and was on the train when I took this picture.  What a great vacation.
