Title: A1 sidewinder on a type 3 Post by: Luftkraft on August 13, 2009, 10:46:18 am Does anybody run a A1 sidewinder exhaust on a type 3? I want to order one and I'd like to know the exact position of the muffler. There are some ideas spinning in my mind...
Thanks Marc Title: Re: A1 sidewinder on a type 3 Post by: thehanz DVK on August 13, 2009, 16:21:23 pm i have it...i will take a picture this saturday....

Title: Re: A1 sidewinder on a type 3 Post by: Zach Gomulka on August 16, 2009, 00:33:20 am You think it would wind to the other side...
Title: Re: A1 sidewinder on a type 3 Post by: stealth67vw on August 16, 2009, 02:21:20 am You think it would wind to the other side... Why? Traditionally exhaust exits the passenger side. Title: Re: A1 sidewinder on a type 3 Post by: thehanz DVK on August 16, 2009, 08:15:21 am You think it would wind to the other side... Why? Traditionally exhaust exits the passenger side. as far as i know it exits at the driverside...but both side's look very similar just a smal diference... Title: Re: A1 sidewinder on a type 3 Post by: Rennsurfer on August 16, 2009, 14:16:52 pm Perhaps some clarification is in order... every sidewinder that I've seen exits the right side of the car. On right hand drive vehicles, that would be the driver's side.
;D Carry on. Title: Re: A1 sidewinder on a type 3 Post by: Zach Gomulka on August 16, 2009, 23:57:27 pm I'm just saying that the factory type 3 exhaust exits through the cutout in the rear apon, on the left side. Would be nice to see it there, but I understand that would take a whole re-design of the system.

Title: Re: A1 sidewinder on a type 3 Post by: Luftkraft on August 17, 2009, 08:16:01 am Thanks a lot for the pics! I'm wondering how it'd look like with a straight exhaust pipe in place of the bent down one. Actually, I like that stealth look, but in a way, there's something missing...
Do you guys think that the straight pipe would clear the rear apron? To me it looks like it would. @the hanz, could you please measure the distance from the muffler/exhaust pipe exit to the rear apron? So I can determine the perfect length of the straight pipe. thank you... 8) Reason why... I'm so tired of my worn and hanging down single quiet muffler... Title: Re: A1 sidewinder on a type 3 Post by: Georg/DFL on August 17, 2009, 09:07:58 am Marc, I have ordered a A1 system as well. It fits very well and I could measure everything you need for the type 34 application. :-)
Right now I am on holidays but send me a PM as areminder and I'll call you when I am back! Cheers, Georg Title: Re: A1 sidewinder on a type 3 Post by: Luftkraft on August 17, 2009, 10:45:50 am thanks Georg, happy holidays 8)
Title: Re: A1 sidewinder on a type 3 Post by: Luftkraft on April 04, 2011, 22:38:46 pm I know this is a pretty old thread... but after one year of reflecting and a half year of measuring I finally ordered my one off straight pipe sidewinder exhaust at A1. And I must say, Tiger's work is outstanding. Highly recommended, amazing craftsmanship, from fit to finish.

Title: Re: A1 sidewinder on a type 3 Post by: Derjava66 on April 06, 2011, 06:32:11 am Wowwy that looks nice, but I am curious whats lurking in the backround? Obviously an early fifties GM product. Looks to be chopped too, can we get a pic of that one?
Title: Re: A1 sidewinder on a type 3 Post by: Rennsurfer on April 06, 2011, 07:16:28 am Luftkraft, your car looks perfect with those wheels and straight tip exhaust. Could very well fool most non-VW people into thinking the car came that way from the factory. Two thumbs up for a tastefully done car!
Title: Re: A1 sidewinder on a type 3 Post by: Luftkraft on April 06, 2011, 08:33:31 am thank you guys!
@Flow / Derjava66: good eye ;) the red vehicle in the background is a chopped 1949 Chevy coupe. On the left there's my buddy's 1932 Ford coupe.
