Title: A1 sidewinder on a type 3
Post by: Luftkraft on August 13, 2009, 10:46:18 am
Does anybody run a A1 sidewinder exhaust on a type 3? I want to order one and I'd like to know the exact position of the muffler. There are some ideas spinning in my mind...

Thanks
Marc

Awesome to see sidewinders on Type 3 cars.

You think it would wind to the other side...

You think it would wind to the other side...
Why? Traditionally exhaust exits the passenger side.

as far as i know it exits at the driverside...but both side's look very similar just a smal diference...

Perhaps some clarification is in order... every sidewinder that I've seen exits the right side of the car. On right hand drive vehicles, that would be the driver's side.

 ;D

Carry on.

I'm just saying that the factory type 3 exhaust exits through the cutout in the rear apon, on the left side. Would be nice to see it there, but I understand that would take a whole re-design of the system.

Thanks a lot for the pics! I'm wondering how it'd look like with a straight exhaust pipe in place of the bent down one. Actually, I like that stealth look, but in a way, there's something missing...

Do you guys think that the straight pipe would clear the rear apron? To me it looks like it would.

@the hanz, could you please measure the distance from the muffler/exhaust pipe exit to the rear apron? So I can determine the perfect length of the straight pipe. thank you...  8)

Reason why... I'm so tired of my worn and hanging down single quiet muffler...

Marc, I have ordered a A1 system as well. It fits very well and I could measure everything you need for the type 34 application. :-)

Right now I am on holidays but send me a PM as areminder and I'll call you when I am back!
Cheers,

Georg

I know this is a pretty old thread... but after one year of reflecting and a half year of measuring I finally ordered my one off straight pipe sidewinder exhaust at A1. And I must say, Tiger's work is outstanding. Highly recommended, amazing craftsmanship, from fit to finish.

Wowwy that looks nice, but I am curious whats lurking in the backround? Obviously an early fifties GM product. Looks to be chopped too, can we get a pic of that one?

Luftkraft, your car looks perfect with those wheels and straight tip exhaust. Could very well fool most non-VW people into thinking the car came that way from the factory. Two thumbs up for a tastefully done car!

thank you guys!

@Flow / Derjava66: good eye ;) the red vehicle in the background is a chopped 1949 Chevy coupe. On the left there's my buddy's 1932 Ford coupe.
