Title: Donut Derelicts
Post by: Rennsurfer on August 15, 2009, 17:37:05 pm
Met up with Greg Brinton and my best friend (since '72), Bob, at the Donut Derelicts gathering in Huntington Beach this morning. It starts at around 0500-0530hrs. every Saturday morning like clockwork. Bob helped start up the tradition as he lives right across the street from the venue. If you like hot rods and just out of the ordinary cars... this place is worth checkin' out.

Next time, I won't forget my camera in the car. I only snapped a few pics towards the end when everyone was clearin' out. By 0800hrs. the place is almost devoid of any of these cars. Gotta respect the local businesses which open an hour later.

Easily, the oldest car in attendance today... a vintage steam powered example of early automotive history.

One of the coolest motorcycles I've ever laid eyes on.

When I hear the term "gasser", I instantly picture '50s and '60s American cars exactly like this Chevelle. Guess I've been hanging around a different crowd all of my life. Never heard the term applied to any other type of car till I first visited The Lounge.

Another cool bike.

Boss Hog V8 powered bike eclipses smaller Honda Trail model. Thing sounded like a full on hot rod car when it pulled in.

This older gal was very proud of her '50s period perfect lowrider. Every detail nailed... down to the Appleton spotlights and blue-dots on the tail lights. She left the same time as us, so I shot a few road pics like this. We gave her thumbs up at one of the red lights. She was truly enjoying her car, smiling, and rightly so. Wish that I had a better image of her... 'cause she appeared to have walked right off of the I Love Lucy studio stage. CLASSIC.

If any of you ever want to meet up there, just let me know. It's a pretty short drive for me.

Sarge, that's an excellent idea. In fact, if anyone's ever interested in going... post up or contact me I'm always up to go.

Most affirmative.

Mark, did you have donuts?

No, Sir... opted out of the coffee & donut theory and went across the street for a Clif™ bar and a tea with blue agave, instead. Figured that I'm gonna be eating all sorts of stuff that's bad for my health, tomorrow. So that's my way of offsetting the nutritional balance... or imbalance, as it were.

Sadly, I don't have any more pics. Sorry. Like I posted, I didn't get my camera from the car till we were leaving. I was having too much fun looking at cars and talking with friends. I'll get my act together the next time.

Thanks, Dave. And Frenchy... looking very forward to seeing your 32 there. It'll fit in rather nicely with that crowd. Just say the word, and I'll gladly meet ya there.
