Title: Erco raceweight wheels on the street – real life experiences?
Post by: Fastbrit on August 19, 2009, 10:52:32 am
Well, has anyone run the race weight Erco bubble-fronts on the street? After genuine, first hand experience, not "Oh, I hear they bend...". Somebody must run them? If so, let me know how you got on. Thanks  :)

Ian Clark ran them on his '52 for a number of years and had no problems as far as i know, that did quite a few street miles,

Hi,

I ran them for quite a few years too with out a problem...... until I launched over a roundabout by accident. They bent nicely then! But managed to limp home looking like something out of whacky racers before all the air leaked out  ::)

I think they will be fine unless your either run off the road or hit a ridiculous pot hole.

I Run Raceweight Rears on the street on my bay :o

Seem to have been excellent so far, although i got a suspicious puncture on the way home from SCC, will take it down the tyre shop and work that one out tomorrow.

Well, you know I ran DDS pie pans on the street for years. I may have driven over 20,000 miles on them without an issue.. But I never had a flat tire as well. Having said that, would I drive from Cornwall, England to Chimay, Belgium with them today? Probably not. I guess I am not that brave any more...

No problems here using 135 xzx's

of course my old 65 was not a daily driver and I never totally nailed any potholes

deano's advice is probably the best one

Ran my old Oval, weighing 740 kilos, on race weight 3.5 Ercos with 145-65-15 tyres on the street for three years without any problems. Checked often for any buckles or runout and no probs.

My big fat (read heavy!) '72 bug runs 3.5 raceweight fronts.  Done about 2k miles so far and no problems.
