Post by: Russell on February 22, 2007, 09:47:37 am
Guys

Would love to see pictures of my car now and in the past, I know there was some great ones at Pats when the Xaiver's engine was installed. I have been speaking with John Preston and trying to arranmge with him to come to EBI as a VW Gasser Garage Guest Driver

Russell, What the car needs is some contingency stickers for the rocker panels.  There are places that sell vintage stickers on the web. The picture of the interior makes it look so beautiful, any chance it could be cleaned up like that again? If John Preston can't make I would love to be put on the short list for that drive  ;)

Larry

The plan is to get all the stickers remade and added to the car, I had hoped to get this done for EBI but im not sure time will allow, John has been going over his info in order to get me a complete list of everyone that was on the car and then it will be trawl the net until i can find or have them made, i feel this will be a mssive task to get right. But i will try.

Russell

P.s Point note about the Driver offer again, hope your still good at cleanning cars also !

What started as a slightly optimistic idea quickly became a reality, great crowd and a pretty amazing afternoon. I think on reflection that the mood was it had to be done, so it was. Yes, when it fired it really was quite a moment but it was only a means to an end and that was seeing it 3 days later back on the track.  A reunion with it's past at Bug-In would be a great follow up.

 :)

Seeing Richard McPeak's name on the deck lid sure brought back some old memories for me.  I was working for Sierra Porsche Audi in Riverside back in the mid 70's and got to know a lot of the VW crowd...Lee Leighton, Fumio, Dave Andrews, and Darrell Vittone to name a few.  Darrell's shop was next to McPeak's and it wasn't long before I got to know Richard.  I was driving a 73 Datsun Pick-Up at the time and had McPeak's pinstripe the truck for me.  In between McPeak's and Darrell's shop was Chas Morse's shop.  Chas was a very gifted fabricator who built some of the first merged collector exhaust systems as well as a lot of stuff for Darrell's race cars over the years before he passed away from spinal cancer.  Those were the days... 8)

Check out this site  www.backintimeUSA.com  I bought some stickers from them. Get the big ones, I got hooker headers, hurst and 1975 Winternatioals. I could bring them to you if you want. Yes I'm good at cleaning up cars.

Hey Russell, get a list of the decals you need and post it up here, some people will have some decals that they could sell on or donate, especially on this car!

Si.

This may be too late, but if Preston hasn't already provided them (which, knowing Sally, has already happened), here are some pics of the original car, showing some of the decal placements.

#1, M/G class winner at Indy '75
#2, new paint scheme debut at Pomona Winternationals '75
#3 M/G class winner at Indy '74.

That's some seriously cool pics anyway! You can build a car, but you can't build a heritage like that..
