Title: Wildest type 4 cam.
Post by: GetBackOnTrack on August 08, 2012, 14:25:52 pm
Does anybody know of a wilder cam than the web 277 cam available for the type 4 engine? (off the shelf). If you dont look into custom grinded cams offcourse.

Regards, Jakob

I've one, basically a FK98 for a T4. Brand new, but I'll never use it.

Depends a little where on a cam's specs you put the most emphasis on being 'wild'.
Some cam from EMW has slightly more duration, Q-grind, (and even then where does the duration come from: later intake closing or earlier intake opening etc) and one has a bit more lift (S-grind with 0.60x").
If you pick the most duration and/or your idea of wild valve timing and combine that with Pauter ratio rockers, that would yield "the wildest" I suppose.

But seriously, how many cam suppliers are there that have all their cams online? two? three?... 'Off the shelf' is probably also not the same as 'in stock'.
I think nobody has a complete Pauter listing of type 4 cams to name a good one.

Do you have heads that can handle a bigger cam than 277 ? I have a pauter in stock that has more duration and lift .

Hey and thanks for the replies.

I was just curius about the matter..

I just came of the dyno yesterday with my 2460 type 4 with web277 cam. It pulled 250 hp (with fanbelt on) at 7200 rpm and 254 NM of torque at 7000 rpm. In comparrison to my old setup with web 251 it gave me 5 more horsepower with belt on.

I have close to 17 mm of lift with my pauter 1,48 rockers.

flownumbers on my heads are:

Lyft(mm)               in                   ut

2                       43.4                 32.3

4                       86.6                 63.4

6                      130.8                91.1

8                      167.5                109.5

10                    191.9                123.8

12                    208.7                133.1

14                    222.9                143.1

16                    230.7                148.7

Udo do you think the heads has reach their potential?

Regards, Jakob

I would do some work on the heads before getting a bigger cam - but the dyno results are very nice
