Title: Show us your garage pics...
Post by: peejke on December 27, 2012, 20:57:32 pm
There so many people on this lounge with so many great cars at there home. We all try to nurse them to are best abilities. So most of the times (in rainy Belgium for sure) we put them in the most precious part of our house, our garage. The decorations found in there our in many times more dear to us then the things in our livingroom. So... wouldn't it be great to get some pics together of your cars an there sleeping places.
Cheers

Here is a few items I have hanging on my Garage walls. The sign we used to hang in our pits at the dragstrip, I still have the old Cali plates from my old 57, and an old Bug O Rama poster.

Here is a recent shot of our lower level that always houses six vehicles.  The inventory is always changing and is usually a bit more crowded with Detroit Iron replacing the two VW sedans.

Some day if I ever get the the second level (no vehicles there but I do have a complete 40HP engine from our '63 up there) I'll share some photos of some of our other treasures....    ;) ;)

Not my garage at home (a little asbestos jobbie with a rotten wooden frame!), or my unit that I rent as a workshop 30 minutes from home, but my new classroom at school! ;D
Before:
[attachment=1]
A store room used for keeping all sorts of junk in, including exam desks, scenery from old school plays etc.

After:
[attachment=2]
Walls and floor painted, fold up work benches on right hand side, shadow boards on left hand wall ready for mounting tools onto, just needs a car! All done by my five students aged 14-16.

I did suggest that we do a Beetle as a project, but the rest of the staff involved weren't keen on three years of welding... ::) :D

He restores antique trucks now for $$$ and for fun -- He is doing a Diamond T as a driver, for himself, to go to a truck show in Washington later in the year -- -- has a 1918 Rubble that is too cool for school that is a future project -- and you can see a lot of future projects lining the walls

Here's a photo of my garage on Christmas Day.  Sort of converted for Christmas dinner, but you can still tell it's a garage. Last year we ate outside in the back yard, but it was too cold in Phoenix this year to do that.

Here we go.

I should have mowed the grass before taken the pics.I took them this summer  :P
This is a pretty old barn where my great grand father, grandfather and father used to store cereal and livestock feed. The place I use was the loading dock (build during the late 60's or so, the rest of the building is in concrete and was built during the 30's)and where we bag charcoal with a hopper and a 60's Atlas forklift. The engine was a 6volt beetle engine. We still have it  :)

The Dart is a Christmas gift from parents last year.
Not the best Belgian beer, but I found it cool.
My latest buy. The old compressor took forever to catch up.

This a nice place to work, but it's a bit cold.

This is our new place. Much bigger than my garage :-)
It used to keep horses so the walls and roof is insulated and has plenty of light.
We have just moved to it, so we will get more situated after a while, but already feeling how nice it is to have plenty of space around the cars.

HAHAHA!!!!

It's OK though, I'm 1/2way through building a 8m x 4.5m insulated enclosed lined shed on the other side of the house, and I can hardly wait. I've been getting everything organised for a year or so, and by winter I should have the little hotrod in there and ready to go. It will even have a flat concrete floor! WOO!HOO!  :D

Thanks, I actually have 2 of them.  I found them at a local public schools surplus auction.  Both work just fine.  The other one is a little older, and a little more used.

It sure makes it easy to get a Chinese 009 to work correctly.

Thanks Peter!  Last Fall, I rejoined a bunch of cycling friends from the past as well their bike club (Canyon Velo).  I noticed that most of the riders were on Ridley's and, when my old frame developed
a crack near the bottom of the seat tube, decided to try one myself.  The bike shop that sponsors our club is a Ridley dealer (imagine that!) and quickly set me up with a '13 Helium; money well spent! ;D

Taken about a month ago, before the garage was a mess again. If you've been on Lounge for last 5 yr or so, you might remember Sheep's 88 x 74 motor I've been trickling along on. You can just see his carrera-copy header (by Ray Schubert) in the background behind the cabinet door that fell off its hinges. This morning I peeked out in garage and quietly just closed the door in desperation.... 3 motors in various stages of chaos, kids' toys, cat stuff, Weber junk... 911 wheels, and this old blue pig.

This morning I peeked out in garage and quietly just closed the door in desperation.... 3 motors in various stages of chaos, kids' toys, cat stuff, Weber junk... 911 wheels, and this old blue pig.
Hi Jim, Any chance to see sheeps exaust ? Looks interesting

No Bars hey?
Now I get the name........nice Kat.  ;D
Crewing for a mate tomorrow GSX1640EFE, slammed but only 2" longer arm. He's hoping for his first 8, been on 9.0s for years.

Thanks...

Best pass on the Kat was 7.87, 183mph. My friend Brad Mummerts 80 GS is looking to go teens this year@200+

NoBars has been a screen name and email since 96. I use it everywhere.

You in Oz?

You in Oz?

Yep.
Got back from the Westernationals yesterday. The big-block EFE only went 9.40s with a soft launch, but at least it didn't split the barrel again!
I'll be there next year (hopefully....) with a Gixxer750 short-stroke screamer in an '80 GS frame.
It's even sort-of on-topic, because I'm building the garage now for that and the '73 Super project.
 ;D
Hi-7s?!?!?!?!  :o Damn, that's fast man on an old Zook. Well done.

Nice machine. My 13 is a '42 war board machine. Small spindle, which is the thing i hate the most about it.

Mine will take 1 3/8" thru the chuck or 1.050" thru the 5C collets. My lathe came from a deceased gunsmith's daughter 25 miles from me and he made rifle barrels on it. I've been looking for a milling machine to go with it, but the price of used machines seems to be skyrocketing since the industry is getting busier again.

Who has old machine tools?

I'll show you mine but you promise not to laugh at the mess. It's a cramped space made worse by my unbridled enthusiasm for starting new projects and disdain for finishing them.

According to the gal at South Bend my 405 was made before early '36 and it's been converted to a 1 1/2-inch spindle . It's also 54 inches which is a pretty rare length. I haven't taken the time to level it but for the most part all I use it for is turning small parts like sleeves, bungs, slugs, knobs, and the like. And for that it's perfect.

I have a 30:1 reducer to convert the Atlas 912 saw next to it for metal use. I also have a '60s Clausing 8520 mill that I'll move into the shop once I finish my wife's car.

My wife and I pushed the little Beetle across the yard, down the road a bit, then up the driveway and into the workshop space I've been building slowly in bits and pieces for a while now. It probably would have been a year ago when I started, but hey, fresh veges from the new garden, fresh eggs from the new chooks, and a backyard for the kids to play in take priority. The space is still taking shape, but the basics are there and the car is in before the summer thunderstorm season hits.........which is due tomorrow!  ;D

Speaking of the kids, here's my very proud 5 yr old.........he steered it in himself (with directions from me and mum).

I think it is oil based. It sometimes chips using a jack but cuts out any dust from a concrete floor.

One is where I work and the other is where I play.

Is this a Myford lathe in the background? I get a ML7 years ago ;)
Nice shop, very very clean!
Yes it's a ML7 in my play room.

Looks like an operating theatre Bernie  :o  don't think my garage will ever look that tidy  ::)

Well the thing I noticed over the years is that people that deliver quality always have nice clean workshops.
Could there be a connection?  ;)

We are in the process of selling our home before I retire at the end of this year. These are few pictures of the new home been build providing we sell our present home. If not this will be my new garage and will add the shop on the end to do all of my rebuild. For now a few pictures until after we move in than I will post more pictures of the garage. At this time this is a 8 car garage and another 1 car garage for the split and some of my memorabilia. Also the floor will be done in epoxy it will have 3 plugs for 220 volts a sink and many other features.

Thanks

Where the small door is located I will be adding a wall to the top and have my enclosed engine room where I will have all of my parts in that area and my sand blaster on the outside near the water heater with the compressor. Tool box, drill press, powder coating cabinet and oven. Later will be adding a two post lift.

Well after all because we have not sold our home this one was sold. But we have picked another lot the next street over but now I will go with the 16 feet garage height instead of the 12 from the prior home. This will help me so that I can add a second story for my collection etc... I will keep everyone posted as soon as we have our present home sold.

This past Friday our '61 Sunroof car finally came home from Greg Brinton's shop.  Still a few issues to work out but it is back on the road.  Christie shot a few photos of the cars in our garage so I thought I'd share them.  The second shot is yours truly inspecting and discovering it is much more difficult to get back on my feet than it use to be.  This is why I do very little of my own work these days.

A couple of more photos.  One is my early Christmas gift to me, a new tool box from Harbor Freight so I can spread my tools out and find things.  Note the Schley BMW Bavaria is not there.  I'd taken it to work and stored it overnight as I needed to clean up some stuff.  That was accomplished and now it also resides in the garage so there are 7.  That may be what you call a full house.[attachment=1]

that exhaust looks super! any comment on it or some close up pictures maybe?

My plan at this time is to change out the entire exhaust to an A-1 with two tips exiting out the stock ports.  Something different than I've ever had and it will also provide more ground clearance.  I have a vert deck lid coming for it and will replace the bumper blades with a pair from Wolfsburg West.

The complete exhaust on the car will be for sale (at a very reasonable price) if anyone is interested you can send me a PM.

Somewhat relevant, there is a fresh 3.6 with 300hp of air cooled goodness in the blue 911.
The Camaros are silhouette race cars from the North America IMSA GTO/Trans Am series in the late 80s early 90s.
Tube chassis, Kevlar bodies with 700+hp, exciting :o, expensive :P, rewarding 8) and exhausting :-\ all at the same time.
In 5 years I'm converting to all street cars and find my place at the local cars and coffee meet.

Hopefully when time and money allows and with advise from here I get it back to what it was.
And a big thanks to Andy for passing it on.

DWL garage in Joensuu, Finland. Always packed with way more crap usable parts than there should be. From this picture you can find 2 aircooled vw projects (there is a notchback shell hidden in front of Finnish EA489 "TEIJO"), 3 engines (another 2 full engines in garage), few sets of different VW / Porsche wheels, and enough shit parts to build at least few cars and about 10 engines. Behind the darts board is our band rehearsing room - it's always reasonable to pack all your hobbies under the same roof :)

Haha..... I sure do!    I'm in the process of making an open living room In one corner for exactly that reason...... I'm better at looking at them than doing anything else!

Thought I'd revive this thread with a photo of my classroom at school...
[attachment=1]

My red '68 in for a little bit of brake work, the blue '71 1200 is a class project and the orange '71 1300 belonging to the head of the school next door is in for a bolt in roll cage, the 1914 motor fitting and generally getting it all sorted for a couple of RWYBs this summer.  Not a bad little set up!

Last year I finally retired and moved from SoCAl to SW Missouri -- Went from my house on a postage stamp lot to almost 5 acres. Another plus is 3 shop buildings!!!!

This is officially my "shop" -- right side is a paint booth and the left side houses the Ghia -- I've added heat and A/C to the left side for those hot summers and cold winters

AND then there's the "Barn" -- a very nice 40' x 60' building with a nice office inside.

I've got so much room in there, I haven't figured what to do with it... Was going to buy a few more VW's but all of the ones I've found around here are very rusted out.

But winter is almost over LOL

My Super in the new-to-me "toybox".
A narrow shelf/bench under the window to come, but it's already a great place to be.
