Title: Who is using front disc brakes need some feedback.
Post by: Frenchy Dehoux on May 01, 2013, 22:31:36 pm

I am planning to install front disc brakes on my 64 beetle. Who's disc brake did you use and with a narrow 4 inch beam any issues with the BRM'S to clear the fenders or rubbing. If you have pictures you can post for me to see.

Thanks
 Frenchy

This was my 65 that had a 4" narrowed beam, CB wide five disc and Flat 4 BRM's. Tires were 125's. No issues except of a bit of rub on the headlight bucket. I think if it's going to be more of a Cal-look car you will be fine.

i narrowd my beam 8cm (3 1/4"), it has dropped discbrake spindles, stock vw discbrakes, adapters to wide 5 and 5.5 BRMs with 155/70 michelins:

I have a 64 beetle with CSP disc brakes and dropped spindles and BRM's. It really needs the 4 inch narrowed beam.

Jesse, did you use the zero offset version of the CSP brakes? and the solid discs?

Why would you want a narrowed beam on that car?  ???

I think what he means is the combination of wheel offset, disc brake kit adding track and maybe track increase with dropped spindles require the beam to be narrowed to bring the wheels back where they would be with a factory set up?

The 4 inch narrowed beam is already on the car in the photo. Like Lee said it is to compensate for the discs, dropped spindles and BRM's.

Normal version. + 12mm per side i believe and solid discs.

Hi Frenchy , I run with CSP Disc's , 2 1/2" dropped spindles and a 3 1/2" narrowed beam with Sway A Way's to accommodate my 5.5 Flat4 BRM's

I only took out 3 1/2" coz I wanted it to look as stock as pos but have no rubbing issue's , mission accomplished , only thing I will say is that the ride is a bit harsher due to the shortness of the springs "not enough length for a bit of spring twist I guess" .
The CSP's pull up great with no wheel locking " something I suffered with the my old wheel disc combo " porsche patten vw disc's " ,
I've also upped the braking out back with T3 drums which along with the CSP's pull the car up real nice  ;)
