Title: Fast 1641cc
Post by: Ragtop on August 04, 2014, 19:55:13 pm
This weekend at BRC, Niklas Haglund with his 1641cc Ghia pulled a 9.28 at 236 km/h. There are films of the run but unfortunately I don't have the URLs for them. Must be some kind of record.  ;D

i think he holds the title: fastest Niklas  ;D

no seriously, it is inspiring what he has done with his beetle and now is doing in the ghia.

I am guessing the owner/builder has :D ;D

I don't think its the parts that make it run those times, its the hours/days/weeks/months/years of work/tuning/braking stuff etc that gets those results, and the ability to think outside the box :o ;)

cheers Richie

Richie is of course right but if you search here on The Lounge and also look at his videos on youtube will find the specs. You will find that the parts are off the shelf and earlier he even used a non counter weighted original vw crank. He still use Mahle pistons, FK89, Mahle cylinders, 044 heads + +

I was so inspired the first time I talked to Niklas and had the opportunity to see his little engine in action. He took it to the JPM dyno day after a full season of racing and if I remember correctly it produced 350+ hp but it was not enough resistance on the rolling road to increase the boost to the levels he wanted  :) At that time he drove mid 10`s with the engine. As a matter of fact I got so inspired that I decided to build something similar and ever since I have been hooked on the mouse engine - high boost - cheap, easily replacable parts idea.

Niklas, thank you for the inspiration!

I concurr! Me too! Thanks Niklas for the inspiration. My TIV version is since a week back on the engine stand. Gathered parts for a while now.
