Is there such a list out there?

I know that there are a lot of racers out there on these tires, and it would be cool to see the absolute best 60-foots out there on these tires.

NA, NOS, turbos.. You are all welcome :)

NA:
- 1.50 Roman, 228hp, 11,5PSI
- 1.74 neil68, 204hp, 17psi, 925kg, stock rear end


NOS:
- 1.42 dannyboy, 185fwhp NA + 96fwhp gas (30% on the line)


TURBO:

- 1.441 Erlend, 2165 turbo (12psi cold)
- 1.448 Kalle, 1641 turbo (15psi cold)
- 1.50 Trond, 2165cc turbo + Rev6

1.50 for me with a full weight steel car and turbo engine. Rev6 clutch with too much grip. I am sure it could have been improved further down to 1.4 with more slippage, but as you know I have moved on :-)

1.448 as best but average is 1.46 ish. Heavy 67 turbo with hydraulic controlled clutch release. 15 psi tire pressure when cold.

enigine made 185fwhp i added 96fwhp of nitrous on dyno it was making 276fwhp on the gas

1.1 according to the time slip at Gardeomen in 2006. Twice...
But I wheelied over the start photo cell.

1.50 in full weight car with a 2387, normally aspirated 228 hp.
I know I was quicker when I wheelied over the photo cell.
Normally 1.54 to 1.59. Daiken clutch and stage 2, 28 mm bars and AVO single adjustable shocks. 0,8 bars tire pressure (11.5 PSI).

1.74 second 60-foot
17 PSI
204 WHP
Stock weight '68 Beetle (925 kg/2035 lb with driver)
Stock rear suspension

Maybe a picture of the tires thread if they have that (I think I remembered from Kalle's car they ad 2 grooves?)

Do these tires have the same compound as a full slick tire?

I use a special glue instead of the ordinary lube when I mount them to my rims. It is a glue made by Michelin for tractors and very popular in tractor pulling. I have found that they are quite sensitive to air pressure. Too much and they have a tendency to vibrate.

I have the next size up, 235 M&H, best is a 1.46, all motor. I have a Rev 6 on order, hoping to improve that shortly.

I just did a 1.441 on SCC this year.

Old tires, and spinning.

Should be able to lower it some.

You need to put on your glasses Erlend and check your signature  :D On the other hand, 12.626@132mph makes the 1.441 60ft even more impressive  ;D ;)

My friend Ryan Koenig (Jersey Joe Koenig built car) went 1.47 to 60 on motor with 215s a couple weeks back.

Let us make this thread more interesting:

How fast (ET) is it possible to go with these tires? And what would be considered a good small tire upgrade? How deep into the 9`s is possible with the MH DOT?

We know we can get decent 60-foot times. I guess we can with more tuning get them under 1.4sec.

But, as some of us figured out on SCC, they spin again in 2nd.

After the 60-foot (with clutch management) the car rises off the ground, you shift to second and the tires spin quite bad.

With dual adjustable shocks, I guess we can eliminate some of the 2nd gear wheelspin. Or boost by gear/speed.



Would be cool to have a streetable 9sec car..  ::) ;D

But it would though.. Wonder what I need to do. Better airflow in the induction pipes for starters. Soon finished with a mocked up system :)

My thoughts on this for what they are worth ;)



You need to approach it like they do in the limited tyre classes, so a 7 or 8inch wide rim with a beadlock to hold that tyre on and keep it as flat as possible on the contact surface and use every possible piece of the treaded area, and it would have to be IRS, swingaxle will have too much camber change and loose contact area to easily.
Then a really good power management like the AMS2000 they use on alot of the super street bikes & Street eliminator cars [ and a good tuner who knows it well]
With some testing to find the sweet spot for pressure in the tyres and at what point the tyres are at there best in relation to amount of runs & amount of burnout there is no reason why you couldn't go 9s with them.
My best on E85 with full cooling/steel fenders/hood etc & weighed 1954lbs was 9.66@14x[cant remember last mph] and 1.5x 60ft in the old car in 2008 without any CM or trick shit on a 8.5 wide tyre so with all the progress in power management since then and a car that say weighs 1800lbs or less you should be able to go well into 9s ;D 8)

We all agree that you can get a decent 60ft with these amazing tires. 1.35 -  1.40 is possible with a close to fullweight VW on a very good track and with a good clutch management system.

With regards to ET and MPH I have to agree with Richie. If you struggle with bounce after the launch then that is just a basic problem you have to fix (you do not use snubbers do you Erlend?) In order to get deep into the 9`s with such a small tire you have to balance the whole run from launch to the finish. A really goodt boost (power) control is more or less a must as Richie mention above. The run will be a dangerous balancing act between grip and power and the safer, easier (and probably faster) way to do it would be to fit a bigger tire.

So what is the world record with a 6" slick?

Rear engined VW 9s, but don't know anymore than that, its one of those things that most wouldn't try as its much easier to put a 8 or bigger slick on and be safer

I don't think this car will ever go IRS either.. Maybe if I change the chassis to a pre60 plate, but doubt it.

There must be a way of shaving another .627sec out of it  :)

you guys have a great approach to VW performance with some truly out of the box thinkers and a absolutely fantastic forum that is always great reading .

i just talked with john at M&H last week about traction and tire pressures ect  and seams my DOT tires are from the first batch in 2003 .  we could not believe it .
if i remember i may have been one of the first of the needed 100 to get my money down to get these into production ,too funny these tires are old but still in good shape.
still a bit of tread showing and rubber is still soft and performing overall quite well.

those same tires have quite a few street miles and lots of track time /passes on them , i cannot say enough good things about them .
if i remember they are the same compound as the slicks with a stiffer sidewall to get the load rating ,which is good for a turbo car .
I'm thinking after 13 years best to retire them .


60'  1.420 and have been stable at speeds up to 143mph .
run Kennedy dual disc with CM ,launch 5100 rpm and run between 12-14 lbs .rim is 5.5"

i see Richie was talking about controlling traction down the track and I'm at that point now ,especially since like everyone I'm putting more power down .
and like some im stuck with a small tire as going down the route of wider rims and fenders is not in my plans at present .


BUT first will start with a new set of M&H 215 dot's or maybe slicks .

That is some going to have them last that long and good mph to 8)  I was thinking they go off after about 6 months use so yours must be fu$ked  :D
I really think you should use a slick for your set up, its possible to squeeze a 8inch slick under stock fender but the wheel offset etc has to be spot on

if i was still swing 8" slick may of been possible .
but i converted to a custom irs type setup which gives very little camber change.
great for a flat contact patch but allows for no wheel tuck as it  rides almost straight up and down throughout
the rear wheel travel.
so will need to stick with the dot or go slick

Where in Europe can I buy these bad boys for a decent price?

If you can't find a European supplier, M&H can probably ship direct at a reasonable price.  I've ordered two sets shipped to Canada and they both arrived promptly, at a small shipping cost.  John Hashim is great to deal with and seems excited that we are buying these tires to use on the drag strip for our Beetles!

I have a set of DOTs which have ran about 12 miles, I have noticed small sidewall cracking.
Ran down the track once, on the sidewall there looks like a date 2003. I can only assume its because they are old.

If so get out there guys and use up the tread  :)
 

My first pair were from 2003 as well and. Are still soft, how they are stored
Has a lot to do with it , John at M&H told me years ago keep them outa the sun
Off the cement and in a environment that will not dry them out

They have always been in a cool sun free environment. I suppose before I bought them they may have been stored differently . They were wrapped and had the stickers still on them when received
