Title: rear coil overs
Post by: whirligig on January 25, 2016, 20:19:55 pm
so when we did the rear suspension 3years ago (tie/z bar centre gearbox mount) we fitted some second hand coil overs to limit squat on launch. It works for us at Shakey before any one says not the way to do it(have read areo thread) .They where off the front of a splity camper and we had to fit them upside down!!!to clear. Anyway the question is what is the best (cheap) ones to replace them that fit with no mods using the springs we have. 2.5 inch coils ,swing axle.

Are the rear damper towers really strong enough without modding?

Tied  into roll cage, see we launch with 4+k revs ,drop the clutch and have controlled wheel spin on slicks. It works for us 1.9 60fts and she ran last 2 runs within .001 of each other. Before we fitted the coil overs the tyres were unloading due to camber change so only the inner 1/3rd was contacting, now the whole slick stays square to the track. Don't work at the Pod as its far to sticky and we get tramp.

Whats wrong with stiffer torsion bars and good dampers?

well found the one that's oily is ok so will be refitting them, having some spacers machined up so the top spring plate is 30mm lower and clears the bump stop casting . They will fit correct way up now. As to needing coil overs it means adjustability for ride height and squat ,works for us.
