Title: Ruby red 66
Post by: beetletom on May 30, 2016, 20:15:02 pm
Finally got my red 66 back, after selling it 3 years ago.

After spending every penny I had building it,got extremely disheartened after the expensive paintjob started to react within 6 months of it being finished!
I won't go into the story of what happened after l sold it, but the individual who bought it ,wasn't a very nice person at all...

I was browsing eBay, hungover one morning, saw a nice red bug and realised it was my old one!
Later that day, I went down to view it, I had to have it back.

Paid a hefty deposit and went on my way

I had to sell all my vw parts and my 64 to fund it.

The 64 has gone to a guy up north, who knows the rennwagens very well
So it's in good hands, and be receiving a big motor soon!!! 😎

Luckily the guy has raised the 66, from the utter scene victim mess which it was before
He's done an awesome job, stuck it on brm's too 😎
Now I'm in a much better financial position, so I can finally sort the paint issues on the 66.

Plan is to raise the rear back to stock, csp discs upfront, fit my B.A.S exhaust, oh and finally a hot motor!!!![attachment=1]

Good work Tom! Tyres and a tweak at the back will see this looking very smart. Big motor sounds like a plan too!

Thanks!
Can't wait!  Just want to keep it simple, just like when it was finished first time round
Max morley's bug ,inspired me in a big way 😎

The issue of Volksworld with Max's bug in it also had a replica of the Aronson '63 - that was the one that inspired me to paint my car the brightest white I could get my hands on! Good issue!

I'm still speechless, anxiety is extremely bad today >:(

I'm going to have to sell it, I have nowhere safe to keep it
I can't risk it getting damaged again

What a bunch of cunts!

Luckily that looks easy to get off. Sucks that you don't have somewhere safe to park it :-\

I know it's terrible but look on it as an excuse to get the paint issues sorted. Hopefully the insurance company will help out

If not I'm sure some wet and dry and thinners would sort it out

Good luck

Plus what Rob said ....

If it helps, I have storage you can use until you have time to sort the paint and enjoy the car again.

Based In Surrey

Man I hope you called the cops.
Shouldn't be hard to find  out who wrote that.

Don't let let them win.

Where in the uk are you?

Got it all off thanks!
No idea who done it, either jealous neighbours, or pikey kids

But started to collect together the bits to make it right!

May have to do another body off, as original pans and framehead bottom plate is scraped to shit 😕
That lovely Gt box I had built, whines in 4th badly, due to it being too low, from previous owners attempt at looking cool...🙄

[attachment=1]Unless anyone knows of a 66 floorpan?

Found this old pic of it, about 7-8 years back

I literally have the worst luck ever!

Driving to my friends garage, it dropped a valve!

Was a nice strong 1600 single port, no anymore though...

Worst of all ,didn't even get to raise the suspension LOL

Would anyone be interested in the car?
Got my eye on another mk1 golf.

If you didn't have bad luck you'd have no luck.

Sell it and buy a proper bug  ;D

Goes from bad to worse.
Engine was put together, after I removed and stripped the damaged head
As I don't have time or proper tools

Got it back today and the engine knocks very badly

This is the final straw, would anyone be interested?
A lot cheaper than what i paid, I just want it out of my life, along with my unit full of VW shit

Tom take it from somebody that has made more fuck ups than LORD FUCKUP Himself...

Put it away.. go enjoy the summer chasing tail ! and then make a plan for the winter months.

Wise words, Rob.
I think in our hobby everybody has had bad luck. Some more, some less...

Just put it in a corner for some time.
If you sell it again, you`ll miss it again.  ;)

Keep it!

Keep at it, don't give up on it yet. I think we've all had times when a breaker bar through the windshield seems like the right thing to do...

Just doing a gearbox swap in the street  :D
Then it's going on eBay

Well, here it comes to the end, and my end of aircooled ownership (for how long?!)as swapped the car for a nice mk1 gti.

I didn't achieve what I wanted to unfortunately, lost the love for it after it got vandalised
And the shoddy work that some big names had done to the car, since I sold it first time round

Luckily it's going to a friend who liked the car ever since she first saw it,and appreciates the history and how good it is for a uk car.

Haha!
I actually had a buyer for mine lined up instead, but as you already bought the 65 by this point :D
To be honest, couldn't have gone to a better person, to do it full on  8)

When I do decide to get another bug, it'd have to be a steel slider, as have wanted one for a very very long time
