Title: Dual muffler
Post by: low61 on September 27, 2016, 10:14:22 am
Hi!

I want to mount a CSP Dual Muffler on my ´61 bug, but I want to paint the mufflers black except for the pipes.

How far would it be correct to Keep the pipes unpainted?

Should the paint just go to the curve of the pipes or is there a certain dimension?

Or is it all just a matter of taste?

I have tried out to find samples in old pictures, but it seems that there is everything possible, starting from completely unpainted to total black.

Mine are completely matt black, look great to me, very stealth.

All black would be an option, but I prefer shiny tubes, at least the last few inches

This is the CSP-dual-muffler. Currently it is in the paint-shop. It will come back in  black with shiny endpipes.

This is the CSP-dual-muffler under my DFL-club-buddy Daniel`s 1967. He had already painted it black.

The muffler's I bought in the past, were painted just beyond the weld say 10-20mm , to protect it and the rest of the tailpipe left as chrome.

Cut the tips off, have them chromed and weld them back on.

Thanks for the answers so far!

Cut the tips off, have them chromed and weld them back on.

Why? The exhaust is made of stainless steel, that' s shiny aus chromed!

If they are stainless then yes, polish them out and paint around them.
