Title: A bit of nostalgia
Post by: Rick Meredith on December 26, 2016, 06:36:38 am
Here's a pic of Eric Roos' '68. Eric was going through some pics and sent me a cell phone capture of this pic.

Eric's older brother owned a black '67 on Sprintstars, dechromed with nerf bars and Lucas lights. It was the car that first got me hooked on Cal-Look.
My wife met Mark for the first time last year and I introduced him as the man that she could blame for my obsession.

Not too long after that, we got started on our own Cal-Looks. Eric first had a '57 Oval-Window. Unfortunately, he totaled it when he spun it into an irrigation ditch.
He bought this '68 to replace the '57. It started out white. He did the bodywork himself with the help of a neighbor who lived a few blocks away. Then the neighbor painted it black.
I remember towing it back to his house after painting it using a couple of motorcycle tie downs hooked end to end behind me riding his Honda XR75.

His parents would often have Mark's '67, Eric's 68, my '67 and Carol's (Mark's then GF now Wife) '57 parked in front of their home.

Nice picture Rick, shows the evolution of Cal Look nicely with the lowered rear suspension and the fully polished wheels. What year was this - late '70's to early '80's?

This would have been around 1980. Even though the wheels look polished here the centers were sandblasted.

Beautiful '68, thanks for posting!  Interesting that the rear is lowered, as well.

It was common to lower the rears. My '67 was done the same way.
This pic exaggerates the effect. not sure why. He's given me a few more pics. I have to transfer them from my phone.

Nice looking car, is it a stock door mirror? It looks great painted in the body colour.

Yep. Stock mirror painted body color. Looks great on certain colors. I was never a fan of the baby Turbos.

They look awesome painted, especially on darker colours. I've never really liked baby turbos or bigger mirrors either. That's one of the things I find the ugliest on modern cars : huge mirrors. You can't beat thin and elegant old mirrors.
