Title: Engine building tips
Post by: andrewlandon67 on March 23, 2017, 04:58:49 am
Well, I'm getting close to ready to rebuild my 1914 here in a few weeks, and I was looking for some tips on how to get it all together right, i.e.; where should I check for clearances, what should or shouldn't be clearanced if I do have some issues, etc.
For the record, my motor is: std/std Universal case, never been built, full flow, EMPI 69mm forged cw crank, h/d stock-length rods, 94s with crosshatching still on the cylinder walls, FK-8 cam, 1.4 rockers, EMPI GTV-2 stage 1 heads milled down to 50cc, dual valve springs, CB .058 Chromoly pushrods,  Schadek 30mm oil pump, new oil cooler, etc.

Mostly I'm worrying about how to check for/correct coil bind and valve height, and make sure everything fits comfortably inside the crankcase.

Thanks for any help!

The biggest problem I have encountered building engines are crankshaft and rods clearance. I have to rebuild a 1641 and a 1300 both with oil pressure problems after only a few thousands km  >:( >:(

They are a lot of tutorials around and a very good post on here but can't find it. I think Jim Ratto wrote it  ???

Damn, that's quite a bit to soak in... thanks for the info, Jim! Since this is going to be the first high-po motor that I've spec'd out and built, I definitely want to make sure that I'm doing everything exactly right, which means tomorrow might be spent digging around work for some of this equipment...
