Title: Recommended gearbox builders in the UK..
Post by: JLaw on January 08, 2018, 16:00:46 pm
Hey,

I've had some bad luck with buying gearboxes from the states previously. I need a swingaxle box built for a road car to handle 200bhp n/a. It wont be drag raced.. Any recommendations.

Cheers,

John.

Depends on where in the country you are. There are a few guys around, but my choice would be Peter Englezos at Cogbox. I bought my race box (an unused spare off someone) that was one of his builds, ran it for a couple of seasons, had him freshen it up then ran it for a couple more years. If I'd got the money (instead of a wife and child!) I'd have him do all my gearboxes.

Hey Neil,

We've tried Pete at cogbox but he seemed busy with other work and not able to commit.

Spooling70- Have you tried a GACBOX?

Cheerio

John.

There was some at first but once it loosened up, it became quite accommodating  ;)

Thanks guys, looks like we will be going with bears..

What ratios are people happy with for a street motor with a tallish fourth?

Cheers,

John.

I'm happy with my 3.88 RP and stock gears with my turbo motor on the street. I don't normally cruise fast tho, because as RPMs rise the motor gets too hot.
It could easily pull one of the aftermarket 3.44 RP's which would be cool to try out, as I'm not sure how city driving would be with that.
It would be great if someone sold some larger diameter wheels/tires that could be slapped on to test a higher ratio without swapping trans.  :D
