Title: mallory YL-541-HP distributor
Post by: Glauco on March 13, 2018, 15:24:55 pm
Does anybody know where I can get a hold of a mallory YL-spring kit (part# 29015). apparently there isn't a spring kit left in the world...
are there maybe alternative spring kits to set the advance curve?
I was already able to find a new cap and rotor, but haven't managed to locate a new alternative for the spring kit...

thank you!

How about an original Mallory Advance curve change kit in an unbroken box?
part number # 29014

The 29014 spring kit is for YT/YH distributor, not sure yet if there is any interchangeability between the two?

it seems to me the points and rotor aren't the same, not yet sure if the springs are the same, I'm still trying to find some good info on them.
MSD doesn't have any knowledge on mallory distributors, so no help from there...
they just bought the company to let it die.

I recently found this place(first post ) i put everything I could find on these distributors here
http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=1311841
I currently have a Pretronix billet that came with a spring kit not sure if the sizes are comparable ,I don't mind measuring them to compare?

the interchangeable parts from jeep are for the single point distributor, I have the dual point distributor, there you need to use the mallory parts...
not sure if it's advisable to use the springs from pertronix, but it wouldn't hurt to measure them I think :)

thank you

ok, I have a new question concerning this distributor.
I can't find the info on the one I have so I hope someone here can help me out.
It seems to me that I have a mallory dual point distributor, but I can't set the degrees, but for as far as I can find, all mallory distributors should be adjustable..
for the rest it looks like the others I've seen on the interweb...

Glauco,
So from your post I gather you are trying to figure out how to set/adjust/limit the total mechanical advance?

From your last picture, the little square metal piece with the window in it, that limits the total mechanical advance. Is it adjustable from the underside? The two studs we can see in the picture, are those actually screws that you can loosen and slide back the window back and fourth?

Correct.

They aren't. From what I can understand is the same plate can be used for a left turning engine by placing the little square plate and the other part on the underside and turning it upside down.  But it's not with screws..
My guess is that you just can't set the mechanical advance
