Title: Clutch cable arm
Post by: Garrick Clark on May 03, 2018, 19:57:15 pm
So. I've got a couple of gearboxes with NEW clutch cross shafts and cable arms, the cross shafts and the arms have splines and only fit 1 way, When the cable arms are fitted to the cross shafts they are not a good fit, They wiggle about. I'm using a stage 2 Pressure plate, I think after some use the arm could start to spin on the cross shaft.
Anyone else seen this.
What's the solution, put a little high heat spot weld on it.
Thanks.

With clean genuine VW parts, the fit is a bit loose.  The fit is only tight if the parts start to rust together.
If you have an aftermarket cross shaft, it might be on the small side.  Can you measure it and compare to the original one?

Hey thanks guys, seeing as I have 2 boxes both with new shafts and arms and both are wobbly I recon its a production flaw, think I'll  do a little weld on it. Those 3 or 4 splines are no way strong enough.

You're solving a problem that doesn't exist.
