Title: Cotsweld race cars SFI 25.1 build
Post by: richie on March 14, 2019, 20:46:49 pm
We thought this might be interesting to some of you to see what goes into a tube chassis build for a rear engine beetle from start to finish, chassis is all chromoly and built to cert 7.49 & quicker not that its likely to ever go that quick but better to over spec it and be safer 8)

For a while it will be mostly pictures until we get to any technical stuff :)

I was going to start a build thread for my new street strip USE/ASA buggy but after checking these pics out I’m not going to embarrass myself.
Simply amazing work!

We need more forum activity, not only facebook and instagram.

Please make one!

Excuse me Ritchie, what struts are those?
I intended Superbug 3-bolt spindles/lower arm/BJs, then mount a coil-over to cut-away OEM strut towers, but if your assemblies are within reach it may be nicer.

Also, is the driver cage part of the SFI-scedule you're building for, or an add-on following altered/dragster designs?

Looks nice, thanks for sharing.
Dave

I'd rather see builds on forums than social media. They will be gone after a while...

That's an interesting looking rear suspension arrangement. I guess the two bottom links work like a wishbone but allow a certain amount of movement needed by the four link?

It needs a top and bottom link to locate hub correct distance from gearbox and be able to set camber, but with just single top and bottom it would be able to steer itself so extra one on bottom stops hub being able to move and steer car, just using a wishbone instead of 2 bottom links would allow it to steer itself still so no use for rear end, hope that al makes sense? it does in my head anyway ;D :D
