Title: Tyre alternatives to M&H Racemasters?
Post by: Jimbosmith on August 02, 2022, 21:39:16 pm
Hey all,

Given that the M&H racemasters are almost impossible to get a hold of now and look that way for atleast the coming future.  Anyone had any experience with a similar tyre or any recommendations, street/strip tyre.

me as well. or maybe a good grippy tyre in 205/70/15...something that is road, but mostly track worthy.

can't beat the look of the racemaster.

Avon CR6ZZ - really nice soft tyre - classic tread - avail in 205 and 185 / 70 / 15

I use the Avons on my 911.  The only issue with them is that they are a tarmac rally tire and  have very stiff sidewalls.  They do make the ride much harsher and stiff sidewalls are not ideal for straight line performance

but maybe better for a street driven bug... I must say I am tempted by them. but then on the other hand I don't want to completely half-ass it... which is a bit what a M&H racemaster could be defined as, already.  ;D

Vredenstien Classic Sprint are a reasonably priced alternative for a street tyre, old style tread with a modern compound, but even less race oriented (sticky) than the Avons.

x2 on the vredestein classic sprint. I changed from Pirelli Cinturato P1's to Vredestein classic sprint (195/65 to 185/80), big difference! in look and feel.
I don't have enough power to spin them, but that might say more about the power of my engine than about the tires  :D

You must be clear about what a street&strip tire is
Is just to drive from and to the track
With the type of rubber they are
It is not a tire that you can drive many miles with
If you are really careful, the car should not stand on them for a long time
All racing tires must be unloaded or lying next to the car
Around 3000 km they usually last With worse grip the more they go on the street It is not a tire for daily driving if you want to keep the grip in them
If you were to talk to a tire dealer who sells that type of racing tire I would think he advises against using them on a daily basis
He will talk about them because they have a long shelf life
This is what we told our customers when buying that type of tire When we were a dealer for M&H /Avon/Yokohama
