Title: Carbon cabrio
Post by: richie on December 24, 2022, 20:03:39 pm
As i have posted previously I have been making a few carbon parts last couple years, with a lack of racing this year due to parts supply issues I had some extra time so continued making more moulds and then carbon cabrio pieces.
This week i finished the last piece of the puzzle to enable me to complete a carbon cabrio to replace the steel body on my race car.
Here's a few pics of it from today  :)

cheers Richie

Saw the pictures Looks great
You know what a job it is to make molds
Very well done
Have you put a lot of lead in the front now?

Thanks, yes lots of work :o   So far only a little lead, still have to scale the car to balance it so will do some work with the lead bars to see how it helps

or out of stock...

nice work. I know you put quite a few extra weights in the metal one to balance it out, I am curious to see how much less (or differently) it will be.

Thank you all, there is more to come still though, then eventually when I am happy with it yes I will probably paint it, will stay raw carbon for a while though  :)

..... I will probably paint it,

Paint adds weight.

Speaking of weight, any idea what it's currently at, and how much was lost over the old steel body?

Yes, and yes sort of. It weighs 277lb less than when I ran the 7, I have made some other changes so that is probably not totally down to the carbon body

Still, that's an incredible weight loss! I can't wait to see what it does next, and I'm sure you're looking forward to that too!

carbon fiber usually reduces the weight a lot
But it usually takes a few kilos of lead because it won't be easy at the front
My carbon fiber front only weighs 5.6 kilos
So you know how much Richie has reduced the weight of the car
