The Zwit Stephan shot.

And with new tan ragtop as seen in Ultra.

if it has Fuchs now and didn't come with fuchs, then its a Cal looker, especially lowered and a dual carb'd motor.

Does anyone have any of Matt Joys 57 or Mike Gagen's 61  Huh Huh Huh Fabian  Wink Smiley

Here's a photo I took of Matt Joy's '57 in Michigan after the 1996 Berg Cruise and MVVWC show.  Taken at the hotel after everything was over.

Here are two photos of Mike Gagen's '61 taken in April 2001 at my post Bug-O-Rama barbecue.  In the one photo you can see Mike and Rick Mortensen in the background while Shanna Rick's daughter tries on Mikes car for size.  The second photo I took from my roof (same day).

Hi Don! Yeah I really enjoyed your generous hospitality that Bug o rama.
It gave me a grin seeing that photo on your front lawn hanging out with the great PHX VW guys at your after event party.

Allow me to ramble...
In your photo my space saver 135 on the rear. ;)
Day before at the event last pass of the day the Slick would not keep pressure.
I told Frenchy I'd just do a gnarly burn out and try to get the front wheels up but due to the leaking tube should abort the pass.
So put some extra air in it and got in line.
Damon in the blue car and I lined up, did our burn outs and then the track was shut down for something.
Sitting there engine off, door open, helmet off just waiting to feel the car start listing towards ther leaking slick.
After it felt like too long we again did burn outs and lined up.
Damon and I took off and we both ran it out the end. Close race, was glad the slick stayed inflated. :)
The only reason I brought the spare was for Renn Kafer show points. ;D

The car is owned and raced by Jen Jevec (just talked to Ken last week, he's doing great) , with a Paradise turbo motor it runs 10s now.
I'm out of VW stuff but I do have close ratio 915 with Quaife TBD..now how did Beacher do that...
Hope all is well with you and the family.
Best,
Mike

thanks Don, I'm not looking for another car hobby, but there is a cool bug I've known about since the mid 80s in San Diego, just a phone call and I'm off the deep end again...
The 80's every late model bug was red and they all had gold 8 spokes, they were overplayed like stairway to heaven. ;)
Those ruby red bugs are sweet.
Have fun,

The first one that came on my mind is certainly my buddy Kurt Van Perre's 1967 Ruby Red Standard Ragtop

But also this lovely 1967 on those American Racing mags...

And who remembers Yves 1968 with a whoping 2,4 type 1 engine and mega burn outs on Spa-Francorchamps at least 5 years ago...

In case you didn't notice it allready Ruby red is my favorite VW red!

Nico, I don't know what happened to the dark red car, but Dave still has the India Red car to this day and in it's same condition. We built our cars in '79 together when I was a mechanic at his family's VW/Porsche shop. Another Cal Look survivor.

I never really considered my car a "traditional" Cal Look... after all... it's a Fatty.

Great looking car, Glenn! 8) 8)  What size are those rear Pirellis?
They're 195/60-15 on all 4 corners. I need to replace them since they are old and hard. They spin real easy. I'm planning on a set of BF Goodrich G-Force 195/55-15 front and 205/60-15 rear.

Glenn could change that up by doing the bumpers, headlight rings and turn signal covers up in red (leave the rubber deco strips on the bumpers) and by doing the trim in black semi-gloss powder coat.  Just 'cause it's a Fatty doesn't mean it can't be Cal Look, too.  It's fun to be different...  8)

I'm pretty sure Sam didn't bury his BRM.  Just daily use on salty roads will do the trick.

Car has been finished on this redo for 1 1/2 years but I have procrasted on the photos. The car was featured in the Jan. '09 issue of Hot VW,s though, so more pictures are there. Happy New Year to you too Sarge. Hope to make it out to the Classic this year.

Thanks!

Top pic is stock width beam, rear at stock setting, but slightly higher due to some weight removal. Second pic is narrowed and even more lowered beam and rear one notch down.

After that I smartly went back to stock width beam at a more comfortable height and leveled out the rear end.

Like Jelle said: Daily use and road salt can "age" a cheap repro BRM pretty fast.

Quote
the stance on this is spot on!
on the top pic, is the beam stock width?

and how did you 'age' the brms? or havn't washed them?

Thanks!

Top pic is stock width beam, rear at stock setting, but slightly higher due to some weight removal. Second pic is narrowed and even more lowered beam and rear one notch down.

After that I smartly went back to stock width beam at a more comfortable height and leveled out the rear end.

Like Jelle said: Daily use and road salt can "age" a cheap repro BRM pretty fast.

thanks!  :)

That is nice! Looks like small pre-64 windows, late model fenders and aprons and super beetle type mirror. What year is that car??

il share

as i own a brazilian issue beetle 1979

that pic, seems to be a brazilian 74-77 i think..

thats when they used the tailight much like a 68-72

my 79'  has the big tailights like th late supers

if im not mistaken , the 74-77s have 1300s and 1500s sp motors..  the later on's  like my 1979 has a 1300cc SP motor
all of them swing axles

i think only the u.s and euro ones got the 69 up  IRS bugs..  only irs ones local to me are supers

im in Asia lol so dunno how that relates to brazil.. but i have a brazilian issue one..

current project is concentrated on my 69'  though LOL

addtl. stuff

the brazilian issue's have a similar body like the older beetles,  small window , but with vents on the rear quarters

big bumpers , like super's but non shock absorber types..

I bought this 80s style 68 years ago for a winter beater (winter boots are on it). It came with a black spray-painted interior, Farfenugen sticker across the top of the windshield and a Beastie Boys style VW chain necklace in the glove box!

A blast from the past. Such a cool car. I remember reading a mag feature and it said something along the lines of it would struggle to corner like a beetle cup car but would kick its arse on the straights :)

Anyone have any shots of red lookers with polished/chrome Fuchs? I'm trying to decide if I want to go with Empi's Fuch-offs on my '67 or not, and the detailed ones just look goofy.

Bringing an old thread back up, just for the sake of this car... I'm personally more of a beetle guy, but this car, in all of its pink/raspberry red glory deserves at least a mention. The girl certainly isn't hurting anything either.
