Wow - you`re still playing around with that T4 stuff.  ;)

I hope you get it done for the 2008 season and that you will take your car with you to SCC - this is for sure a monster I want to see and hear. Good luck with the rest of the work!

Elnef, do you have a Equilizer pulley machined for T4 ? (I bought one for the same purpose.) Plus, what cooling system do You use on this project ? (I'm gonna use a very old/new DTM from Joe Locicero).

I dont mind saying this in public: Building the engine was a task with quite a few obsticles. But John and friends just kept on trying until it was in the bag. And that header is a work of its own. I´m impressed.

I´m looking forward to see what numbers you can get out of it, both on the rolls and on the track.

- For some reason the old ACDC song "THUNDER" comes into mind ::)

Thumbs up.

No on number 2 intake
We did make the clearence for #4 exhaust lifter when we fit the bushing

I have order a new cam and lifter this time both from web cam hope this will solve the problem

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: Patte on April 14, 2008, 15:14:01 pm
Ok.But you still have to clearence the cam for the for the lifter,my cam snapped in two pieces at 8700rpm because it it was done in a crappy way :-[

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: Elnef on April 14, 2008, 16:31:35 pm
Thanks for trying to help me with my "little" problem

what brand was your cam and what did you do ?

How much clearence do you have ?
I have a little over 1mm from the back side of the lifter to the bushing

any one else who have any ide what was going wrong with my lifter ?
I have looking and looking and ended up with it must have been a bad lifter

I was thinking/reply about lifter clearence in the block and between lifter and bushing

Patte
Thanks for the info and picture
do you think 3mm is necessary between the lifter and case or was it just what you have ?

I thought a 277 was a lot of cam in a N/A engine but you have it in a turbo engine thats "crazy"  :)

Hi

I think you don't need 3 mm clearance from cam lobe to lifter . Are you shure the lobe did not hit the rod ? Or you had not enough spring pressure and the valves float ?
I never saw a broken Type 4 cam from US , only german Schleicher .

Udo

Yes yes the engine is still ok
the picture was taking after the first run at SCC so its a bit old
I bought a new stage1 there and made some more run but it was slipping and after a test race more here in Denmark I bought a stage2 and have made som run with that and it seems to be okay and ready to next years race

What an awesome engine!! It's exactly what I want for my 1973 Beetle!! I was a bit worried about exhaust clearance issues with the type4 heads (exhaust ports face downwards instead of coming out on the sides like on type 1 engines) but the Pauter heads you usedare type1 style!! I've never heard of these Pauter heads though, are they easy to find? Expensive?

Have a look at my blog and tell me what you think about my Beetle too please!!

Total length is 127,5mm and 34mm of them goes in the block
cylinders = AA and piston is JE 432g

picture=http://bp1.blogger.com/_PK72ALI-_i0/R0msNAwGLHI/AAAAAAAAAyQ/7EVMuTr1t2Q/s400/HPIM1469.JPG

John, i have the same cylinder/piston combo with 80 mm c/w DPR crank, chevy journals and H-Beam Eagle rods.
Would the stroke be too much ? (Piston pulled out of cylinder?). How much clearancing would i have to do
inside the new T4 case.
Would you, or some other T4 head know where to get cyl. spacers and copper headshims ???

Thank you very much,
Harry

Hi
I use a 86mm crank so I cant see why a 80mm wont work
I think you need to put your stuff in youre block and look

Hi
Have you ever tried a smaller exaust ? It looks very big , special the muffler

Why is the car so heavy ???

What rods are you using to get the necessary clearance to that big cam?

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: bang on November 16, 2010, 09:09:20 am
john is using cunningham rods.

Title: Re: New engine

I think the cunningham are the only ones you can use on 86 stroke. up to 82 mm the new Pauters work well

I belive its heavy because of all the tube inside the car its an old pan car there is modified to a tube chasis car with ladderbars all tube in mild steel
I dont know what to do now maybe build it back to a pan car with new rollcage in cro molly

Is 2" header and 3" mufler to big for a 2979ccm ?

Yes I use cunningham rods

Actually the new Pauter stroker rods clear an 86mm stroke. Thats about 2.870" outside dia on the big end for a 2.0" Chevy/Buick jrl.
And these rods have a 5.800" - 147.32mm C to C

I dont know who Spoke is, but I like fast cars.
By the looks of the "I play to win" and "Still Fatal", major modifications has been made to the original car. If somebody should have been addressed, it must be the builder of Still Fatal..

My thoughts go to Elnef.
He has put a lot of money into buying a "nice race ready" car from the States, and by the looks of all that he has to redo, it wasnt as he expected.
Two gearboxes gone, and by the looks of the comments on UAC, due to bad tranny/engine support...

The extra time, money and effort that he now has to put into the car to make it RACE-ready is huge.

Good Luck with the rebuild! Hope you will be ready for SCC2011!!!!

Hi

I think you don't need 3 mm clearance from cam lobe to lifter . Are you shure the lobe did not hit the rod ? Or you had not enough spring pressure and the valves float ?
I never saw a broken Type 4 cam from US , only german Schleicher .

Saw the car launching from a distance of less 3 meters (resque team) and the car is launching much better than last year.
Straight as a arrow down the strip.  The strip was an unpreped air strip. Let's hope you find the reason for the low oil
pressure and you get ready for some SUPER sticky track action at SCC.

Nice done, both the car and the driving, John

The Jussi way hmm if so that must be the old Jussi way the new Jussi way must be something with a lot of alu plate in last minute  ;) :D

I will call it more like the factory way it look a lot more like a car without the "americanway" with big wing and a lot of alu  ;) :D

If the wheeliebar is not needed I will put it in the corner of my garage with all the other leftover parts  ;)

Elnef,

Take a break. Time out. Get perspective and listen to people the advise on what it could be.
Do NOT draw conclusion yet.
It can be the most simplest oil presure control valve, a pump that has wrong play, a old oil hose that has collapsed inside, to a complex and more expensiive reason like a cracked case, but you do not know yet.
Now even with the most complex and nervwrecking reason, it is not enough for you to give up right now. Not likely anyway.

Just make sure you take the "time out and get perspective" on the situation before you decide on next step.

Thanks for your comments  ;)

My oil problem started last year when my car was ready in primer
I was ready to install my engine but it had some leak behind the flywheel so I wanted to shift seal but there was something wrong with the last bearing so I took it appart yes bearing was gone and crank need grinding we took a check on the block its was okay and a local machine shop did grind my crank but it was under measurement so back to the shop they was sorry and did it again this time it was okay but coarse about 3 time more than a stock one but they say just put it together it will work but after 2 run at the strip no oil preasure then I change pump valve and so on but nothing help so again took it appart this time the bearing in the middle was gone and back to the shop they say the crank was straight and fine but I wanted it polish so they polished it and I started it up last year and got problems with my carburators they work now but no oil pressure when hot
Maybe its my block or crank or both hmm

Do not stop working on it after all that work

Yeah, it sucks. John and I had a long chat the other day. And the symptoms are very much alike what I experienced on an Ally type 1 case about 3 years ago. At that time I did not find a crack in the case, but did replace it in the end and solved the pressure problem.
I think this has been the problem from day one with this case. We/I just did´nt  adress it because it was a type 4 and no one that we knew of have ever had this problem on a type 4.

Never use a 32 pump on any engine. Type4 max 26mm Gene Berg. You must have a sump on an engine like yours , otherwise you do not have any oil in the bottom of the case.
Torben - i think you never had an engine that makes 8000 or more rpm ?

Hi John.

Lack of oilpressure really sucks.
I have had  problems with low oilpressure (0,1bar) at idle when hot after a run for years.

I have been trying all types of cures for the problem and i think i have found whats causing it, i believe
its the original oil filterholder with the built in pressurerelief that fucks it up.
After plugging it and making a type1 style remote oilfiltersystem the probs are solved  :)

It now idles at 2,5bar when hot and 3-3,5bar when cold  ;D

I use a Melling 32mm and Scat deepsump  ;)

Patte.

No problem I got them flowed a few days ago  ;)

Bangs block was not okay so I got one another from a longtime good friend Frank Andersen the local type4 guro  :)
Griebel checked my crank and its okay and he also got my block and will measure it

Cool,

I didn t know JPM made cams for Type 4, now I know  ;)
Is this one custom made, or does he have a few(profiles) on stock.
I kinda like one.

Good luck with the engine, hope this one will stay alive.

Answering for John:

Ok that is good to know, it is desinged for the engine.
Is this a complete set with lifters, valvesprings and pushrods?
or just the cam?

I think it is time to contact JPM, my plan is to travel by his place on the way to SCC, this year.

thanks griebel

No its new hope it will work

The valve cover breath hole and the one in my block is also closed (actually I never drill it in the new block) and now it breath from a 1" beside the alternator

Title: Re: New engine

That is a good idea . specialy why the pauter heads have a big rocker room where the oil can stay in

No its new hope it will work

I belive you need more than just 25 mm, why not open the hole up a few mm's... It does wonders for the area.
Looking good Elnef, any chanse of seeing you in the Norwegian woods this fall?

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: Elnef on July 03, 2012, 11:19:56 am
I think 25mm is okay but I will find out in a few days or so

About scc right now I dont think I will be there this year
there is a race at the local drag strip same weekend and its perfect for test and tune (my car is still new build only ran 2x402m in it in this setup)

Title: Re: New engine

If you have that 25 mm and one 12mm on each valve cover it is ok. Take the time and make some fittings on the covers

Udo

Title: Re: New engine

Hi Udo

Why do you want them in the valve cover ?

I renember Mufler Mikes test where one of them was full of oil

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: Jon on July 05, 2012, 07:59:13 am
I agree with you John, keep the venting going on in the case... no need to create a "wind" up thru the pushrod tubes. Two 1" fittings in the case roof of the only Pauter case I have seen IRL... makes sense.

Sad to hear your not coming to SCC as we would have loved to have you there.

Hi Udo

For me it makes sense to get the pressure out of the valve covers. I had this also before i have the return lines and never oil comming out

Yes a little news was there all day yesterday and will be there again today
Engine sounds great still got preasure  :) respond wery well on the throttle but only about 270 hp around 6000 and something happen maybe tyre spin or ? we did try serval exhaust and so on
today we will try with another set of rim/tyre

Thanks to Rasmus for help all day long

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: Udo on July 26, 2012, 07:15:40 am
Sounds good- try slick tires and strap it right to the dyno. if this does not work i spray clue on the tires  :)

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: Elnef on July 26, 2012, 07:55:37 am
Thanks but we actually did it that way and same at all my dyno times before with no problems but there was some rubber parts on the roof and you could see on the slicks surface at they were spinning so my dyno man want to try normal tyre and more strap down and more glue he say he had best results/grib with normal tyre
well we get the result later today  ;)

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: Elnef on July 27, 2012, 05:55:44 am
Well after another day at dyno my new tyre/rims make the dyno catch my power so now no spin  :)

But I still got problems ignition or fuel or both engine pull nice and power full up to a little over 6000 but then the curve look strange
we change fuel pump and coil but same and the pc at the dyno says everything okay with ignition and fuel but in real life there is something wrong
We now think there is not power enough in my old bosh ignition to make the fuel burn correct when we pull over 6000 with the more comp I got now 12,8-1 compare to before 12,1-1

now I will go on holiday the next 3 weeks an then take up the battle again  ;) ;)

John

Dam Elnef! This is indeed not the news I was hoping for. Time to grab a beer and reconsider things. Then afterwards look at the shelf with all the parts you have collected over the years, add a couple of new parts, a turbo and go faster than ever before.

Take care buddy,

NOOO!!!

Very sad Friday for me too.
Really looks like it was the crank in fact that gave away.
Or did you see anything else yet that could have triggered it?
Any history of this crank that is hidden or you bought it new?

Yes it was an expensive day at the dyno but thats racing I dont know what I will do right now guess I am stupid enough to build a new one to see how mutch better the big mufler is   :)

Yes I bought the crank it new 5 years ago
I belive it was my crank there gave up no sign of anything else
As far I have looked at the parts not a lot can be reused

I am/was wery happy with my dyno result so not everything was bad  :)

Hi Udo

Any reason you ask ?
My old crank was brand new when I build the engine first time

My plan is to use this crank since I got it and it did not sell and yes its new bought from scat back in the late 90

Thanks I guess I need all the luck I can get  :)

I belive it is a part of the game to rebuild it when it break down but like others I sometimes thinks now its enough and all just can be sold
But then that said I would really like to try the car on the strip with all the new mods
I dream about a 10sek car
Just ordered new ti valves and rods from pauter

John

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: Udo on November 07, 2012, 18:15:20 pm
The new light weight rods with smaller bolts should work with that stroke. By the way , i told you that i would never make more than 80 mm on an engine like that . Our most powerfull engine has 80x105 with pauter heads and EFI
But your older scat crank should work
Udo

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: Elnef on November 08, 2012, 12:22:09 pm
Yes its the new light model I have bought
I belive the old crank will be up to the job if not I now know what happen  ;)
My long time good friend Griebel had made a lot of measurements on the crank and its ok and straight
I know you told me about max 80mm but like my parrents always say I wont listen
The engine you talk about is it svens ?
What does it made of hp and at what rpm ?
What kind of pistons do you use flat top or dome ?
Does Kemp not still use an 86mm crank ?

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: SSRT on November 08, 2012, 19:18:32 pm
Broken Scat 86mm seemes to be a general problem,- already broken 2 on my own, one old style and one new. Is there anyone that makes better cranks, or have done it before to look for seconhand, or is it maybe a good idea to ask Pauter to start produsing them for us...I recon he needs more then one order to even consider to make a batch.

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: Udo on November 08, 2012, 19:48:36 pm
I also thought about asking pauter for a crank . may be moldex still makes one ?
You must look for straightness and craks each year ..like i do with the 86 from Thomas
Yes it is Svens engine . we had 320 hp , very strong in the midrange because of the EFI . I hope he races next year

Udo

Title: Re: New engine

I have a friend that had Moldex make him a Type lV 88mm stroker with Chevy jrl's some years ago (so yes Moldex will still do Type lV cranks), which the motor is still in the build process. It had cost him $2000 plus shipping.

But I am looking at having http://www.marinecrankshaftinc.com/billet-crankshafts.html make me a crankshaft, they have a good rep and their local.

Here are a couple pics of the 88mm Moldex

That gives us 2 alternatives, but are they any stronger than Scats??
Scat have produced cranks for many years, they should how to make them strong enough...?
Sorry for hijacking your trad Elnef, but I have reason to belive that many t4 builders are folowing it.

I think they changed the material . The older ones where stronger .

About 4 years ago they had to change supplier[not the actual material] due to a huge price increase for the billet material meaning the retail cost would have doubled

I got the parts you talk about but not sure about the alu push rods if I will use them or not
Also had a Raptor cam in my engine when my crank broke
Here is a photo from last time on the dyno with belt on  ;)

Another photos from Holeby
Engine is in taken appart again no comp and there has also been some valve bounce/valve float :-(

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: Elnef on September 28, 2014, 08:07:30 am
I have now done some inspection on my engine parts and it is not good

Valve float/bounce has damaged 1 lifter and there is small metal parts from lifter all over the engine

The needed parts list so far:
Cam and lifter set
New valveseat job and valve guides
Better valve spring than last time
Cyl
Piston rings
Oil pump
All bearing
Oil and a good clean up  ;)

And a new crank there is a little crack in it  :(

So here we go again

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: bedjo78 on September 29, 2014, 13:44:44 pm
I though you are using JPM pushrod?  valve still float with that?

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: Elnef on September 29, 2014, 14:47:15 pm
Berg push rod 80g only 8g more than JPM un cut
My spring pressure is/was 190 500 and that was to much for alu pushrod in my head
JPM has only test run them on dyno with around 450

My valve spring has lost some pressure that causes valve float/bounce

I have been in weekly contact with Johannes and he is trying to help me out of this nothing bad to say about Johannes

Not a lot going on in this project I have just got these rod from udo and ordered another dpr crank this time 80mm
My plan this time is less power full engine less comp and cc = hopefully longer live on parts
But for now I spend my time on another (callook projekt)  :-)
My health is going stronger day by day no pain killer or morphine in months :-) last 3 weeks full time on job  ;) ;)

Indeed it is! Build a 1.6 - 1.9 turbo engine with 300-400hp and you have a potent street car that you can drive everywhere any day.

Sorry to learn about your engine!

Looks like it may have suffered a lack of oil volume,
coupled with an oil clearance on that journal, a little tight.

I like to use the split main bearings where ever they will fit.
The split type have a better 'oil wedge', than the aluminium ones.

Elnef,

I just remembered there has been some faulty nose bearings around missing a small but crucial oil hole. You might have gotten one in the box?
Pls check?

I read on your posts that you ran quite high rpms
can it be that the oil get pumped back into the case
just like big block chryslers an usa fords
the used an orfice in the crankshaft to equal/balance the oil flow
I hope you can undestand what i mean.

Yes I understand  ;)
Yes it is fix able but for now I dont know how bad it is I have stored it all away
If I am lucky polish crank and repair bearing pin hole
if not new block and one size down on crank
And in both scenarie new bearing oil pump ect

Congrats again on a good result. I hope the engine will stay together and just work as it is supposed to do. And of course push you and your car over the line in just about 10.5 seconds.

So when do you plan to go racing? And where?

Yes I know and have it in my car but it seems I still got other problems before I get to use it or learn to use it

I think valvespring pushrod maybe valve hit piston etc

So you already have a hydraulic clutch system in your with a solenoid, needle valve and a trigger switch mounted nearby the gearshifter?

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: Mats Herrlander on April 27, 2016, 20:49:43 pm
John,

Regarding your over rev. , what did your memory on the tachometer say?
I suggest you:
Do a leak down test (NO compression test! If the valves are f-d, they gone be even worse. Compression test gives nothing comparing to leak down test, ever(!))
As the indication is with the compression test, now: Take of the heads and check the valves (and pistons for marks).
Check your connecting rods and journals.
"Been there/done that": 14k on the tachometer, made the rods kiss the ruff in the block (3 rods, journals, valves, seats, push rods, 1 piston and liner).
To much money to play around with. I would check everything down to the rod journals.

I suffer with you; "You ain't wearing the golden pants".
I have a new Rhino case, with the pinion seat steel bushed.
I also have a heat treated / de burred 3.88 R / P.
Needed: +46 705 69 33 43, Mats

After that I really dont know what I will do

The leak test will tell you what to do next together with your actual RPMS. If the leak test shows that your intake valve is leaking and you where below, let say 9000 rpms, I would replace the bent valve and that's it.

Yes engine is pretty "simple" now but I was thinking more in the future about racing go on or not
I have no memory on tach I shift around 8000 but I think engine came way over 10000rpm when I hit first

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: Mats Herrlander on April 28, 2016, 21:28:29 pm
John,
Your never gone "get rid of the oil", once a racer always a racer. Forget it: Your addicted!
It will come back, sooner or later ...

You say more than 10k rpm(?): you must check your valves, heads, seats... and probably you need 8 new springs. Springs don't like over rev. and must be checked.
Even though your leak down shows that your valves are tight, I had not relied on this.
If I'm not mistaken, you run K800 valve springs (?). With such a spring pressure, the valve remains sealed, even if it's bent.
I would definitely pull of the heads. (..and the liners, pistons and connecting rods, to check the journals).

Regarding the trany: get in contact and I'm sure we can work something out.

..and then I wonder, did you have any valve springs mounted?
Because IF you had, you still don't know shit(!).
Any marks in the pistons?
You must take away the springs. The force from a spring can make any crooked vale seal properly.
Regarding the trany, I reply on mail.

Thanks
(I did made one 10sek in 2014)
This time I did a lot more and with no prep so I will call my car a 10sek car finally 😃
I dont think I will come to scc with car it cost a lot of money and with a car without licensplate I will get in troble with the custom
One of the local was in thunder valle and had to pay a lot of 1000kr in costum fee if I renember it was 15-20000kr
(He got them back almost a year later but it was not easy)
I had never heard about it and have never had a problem maybe its because I normal drive around sweden my friend took boat direct to norway

There are proper ways to do this, you just have to check with you local customs office before taking the car across the border. Even without a license plate as long as you have the customs papers from when you took it into Denmark.
I hope you will reconsider bringing the car, it would be great! You know the track has been redone and is super flat with great traction!

This year show race on main street in Allingåbro was not 1/8 but 330ft = 100m not the best but ok for me to test the new shifter setup
I had some problems with clutch less shifting but with clutch it work great
Best time was 1,47 60ft 4.45 330ft 125 km/t I think it is a high 6sek on 1/8

Well 5 weekend in a row was the end of my crank it is broken again
I can rotate flywheel so I belive it is broken just behind end bearing hmm
It was making so much rpm that my rotor explode

The most unlucky engine ever? I feel for you..

Could there be a common fault here? A crank balancing machine thats not quite right etc?

Not unlucky and probably not a balancing fault either.
Imo a 86 stroke with long rods and 104mm bore pistons at far over 7K gives (way) more crank flex then smaller strokes with smaller bores unless everthing is extreme lightweight, like Titanium rods and those kinda things.
Extreme stiff cranks are what you need AND extreme light weight rotating mass with those RPM's is the only cure to keep it in one piece imo. Everything that helps stiffness (larger mains, better steel, better surface treatments, etc) should be looked into. All those steps usually costs way more $$ then the 'off-the-shelf' parts.
But thats just my opinion and probably not a new fact to Elnef ;-)

Just saying that - imo - it surely hasn't anything to do with luck or bad balancing imo.

I think I have found the end of what the parts I have bought can handle 80x105
Today I got time/energy to look at it again
Just about everything need to be replaced block crank rod piston liners etc etc
But this time I think its time to step op a bit but what to buy any info is welcome 😉
I think pauter but I know about nothing if it will last or not

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: mikko k on July 04, 2018, 14:14:08 pm
Welded crank is NO NO for racing!

Pauter can handle 1000+ hp. It might be enought for you?  ???

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: Elnef on July 04, 2018, 15:08:26 pm
I broke a scat billet 86mm years ago thats why I tryed a 80mm dpr its god german steel

1000hp yes thats way enought I am no turbo guy 😉

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: Garrick Clark on July 04, 2018, 18:24:31 pm
I believe AIRSPEED has given the correct answer with regards the crank. The fact that the crank broke at the flywheel end tell me that the motor must have been at high revs with a side step off the clutch and bang went the crank. I've seen/read about it before. This is the reason I stick with 66 mm cranks on my T4 turbo motor.

All the best for the your next motor.

I am using a welded DPR in my 67, it makes about 300hp and I shift at 7800rpm, been in car for last 3 years or so, plenty people using them in higher hp and more rpm than me and they are living ok so they can work ok, as John has broken at least one other brand crank I think there is another issue going on here but I don't know enough about type 4 issues to comments on what that might be

cheers Richie

Don't immediately assume it then must be a type 4 'issue' mate  ;)

I know the 1303 CSP racer with its 3 ltr type 4 engine with 86 stroke runs way over 8K rpm and over 300hp afaik and never heard him break a crank. Maybe you can contact him or Udo as they seem to work together, even though Udo hates type4's as well  :D

BTW, Scat does sell real forged type 4 cranks as well as their cheap billet forged cranks (they don't advertise these iirc)...there is a difference ;-)

 :D ;D  Of course it is  :o ;

A type 1 would have broken a lot quicker :D :D  but seriously there is something funky going on here, am wondering if t4 crank being longer has anything to do with it, maybe flexes more, I wouldn't expect a 86mm t1 crank with t4 size mains to fail like this but maybe I am being optimistic

Thanks for all your input
It was when I shifted to 2nd it broke
I am i contact with udo this time and also last time it broke
Csp 1303 was with a 86mm scat billet
My scat crank was about 1500$ I dont know if it is the cheap one but dont think so

Title: Re: New engine
Post by: Garrick Clark on July 04, 2018, 21:03:46 pm
Does the end of the crank look like it's been twisting and then let go or is it a clean break. Wondering if it was faulty from the start. It's rare for it to break like that.

What is the material of your crankshaft pulley? Steel or aluminum?

I would be very concerned about using heavy pulley on the other end of the crankshft especially if it is long due to torsional vibrations.
Crankshaft, pulley and the flywheel are a system with a certain rpm's when it is "excited" and torsional vibrations total amplitude might
peak higher with a heavier pulley than a lighter one. A lot of engineering goes into designing crankshaft vibration dampers and generally
it is not recommended to install one into an engine which the part was not originally designed for. Same thing applies for removing OEM damper.
Just a food for thought, I am deffinetly not an expert on the subject.

Pekka

A lot of the old cage was made in 3,5-4mm thicknes and some was 42mm with no reason these is now 32mm as rules says
Also a few pipes did not get in again

My gues is 30kg time will tell when finish

Total on car is now 615,5 and before it was 664

Suddenly we talked VW and your name/the job he did, came up. Cool!

John, having just read this thread from start to finish (I’m on holiday), what a journey you’ve been on! You’ve certainly shown amazing resilience.

I was so pleased the story had a happy ending when I finally got there and you made it through all the dark days with the car and your health.

It felt like a gripping novel with twists and turns, but ultimately an amazing tale of endurance and determination!

If I finally get my act together and race in Scandinavia and your there, I’ll buy you a beer.

Thanks for the story and the motivation.

Peter

Peter thanks for the kind words

A few years ago I saw your car at JPM you have also been on a big journey we can buy each other a beer

Its sometimes funny in what way people get involved in vw in 89/90 I painted a 60 type1 for a guy that later become a wery good friend and for payment I got my first car a 62 type1 I had it for daylydriver in 10years and later I made it a showcar and had it for about 10 more years before I sold it
Griebel was one of the guys who came in my friends garage at dayly basis and we are still friends 😉

I bought my buggy in 95 got it on the street in 96 first with a1700 type4 and later in 96 I put in the first big cc engine in it it was a type 4 2,4L my 2,4L was put together by m flow another local guy I also painted a car in exchange for putting this engine together
My 2,4L had a lot of upgrade over the years first time on dyno it made 167hp and last time 222hp with belt and mufler
First time I was on the strip was at bug run  in 97 ran 8,21 as far I renember and after that day I have been racing on and off
M flow and I is also still friends

I can see I also need a update for 2022 I was at 6 different races and it was as usually a season with ups and downs but made at last a new pb 6,70

2023 I dont think I will be out racing because last week I got a new knee and it will take some time to get on 100% again

I think its time for a little update on this projekt
At my last race in 2022 I lost my oil pressure because of a broken tap in my pump
All the damage is now fixed and got all the parts to put it together again
I also took the “fight” with the bad fiberdoors I bought long time ago also bought a new front with old style headlights and the body finally got some paint after 13years in primer same with rollcage
My new knee is getting better day by day
