After a few years the pros figured that they couldn't get any or much faster with their beetles because of their aerodynamics and/or weight. Fiats like the 500, 600 or 850 Spyder were also rear engined but lighter or had better aerodynamics. Then someone tried to squeeze the VW engine and tranny in there and it worked – as we know. That's it...

here you can find some more Springalex wheels -all with leather-coating but they also did them with wooden rings. I think you can't really tell what kind of steering wheel that is looking at the picture -cause there were so many made similar to the speedwell. Title: Re: Period pictures...
