Title: Pics of Scandinavian Drag Cars
Post by: Oliver Frey on June 10, 2008, 14:32:23 pm
I would love to see photos and stories of Scandinavian cars such as Anders Fried, JPM, L. Nystrom, PANK, Hakan Lundgren, etc..

Any street strip, or full on cars are welcome. I have always admired the out of the box approach of the nordic racers, not only VW but other marks as well. Lots of ingenuity.

Thanks

Oliver Frey

Better get a hair cut or something then. Prof. "Weigh Out" West will probably be able to tell you how many 10ths that's worth.

I talked to Leif like 4 weeks ago and he hoped to be ready with his new car (except for the paintjob) to the last race of the season.
Here is a picture of Jeppe Bergdahls dragster. He still has it bus hasn't driven it for 2 years as he has started a new company that takes all his spare time.

JPM's Prostock. I was on my way to buy it, but it was sold to Norway. Who owns it now? Has it made any decent times?

Post by: Oliver Frey on June 13, 2008, 21:17:53 pm
Roman those pictures are awesome Thank you so much!

What's the story on the Freddie's split and the dragster? I have never seen either before. How fast and what class was the dragster?

Thanks again.

Wasn't there also a New Beetle with Delta sponsorship? I think it may have crashed(?)

Title: Re: Pics of Scandinavian Drag Cars
Post by: Roman on June 13, 2008, 22:38:10 pm
Freddes split is in the 9's, but I don't know how fats it is - maýbe 9.7 - 9.8 or so, but it has potential for a lot more.
The dragster has a 2.3 liter engine and runs in super gas (9.90 index).
I have some pictures of Håkans New beetle as well, and it was crashed in the first run ever due to a very bad track. I have some photos of it somewhere.
It was a US import, but with some updates here in Sweden. I talked to Håkan yesterday and he is making the season premiere with the brown car July 11 with more boost, bigger turbo and a new Autronic EFI system.
More pics coming up later!

WOW WTF happened to Leif's car?  :o

Ok, I feel i need to correct this. I bought Leif's car earlier this year without the engine and transmission, and I have the chassis safely in my garage. What I don't have anymore is the car's body (the orange '64 with a split window) - I did not have space to store the body, so I sold it to a younger "enthusiast".
At the time of buying the car the plan was to replace the body with a full-steel oval window body, and a couple of weeks ago I was lucky to find a nice stripped '53. So the plan is still valid - I will rebuild it to look like an early oval street car, with a full chassis underneath. The engine and transmission may come from my '65 (http://cal-look.no/top10pics/_jyrki65.jpg), or not (TBD). This is a major project for me, and I guess it will take at least a couple of years to complete, easily. I will post a couple of pics later this year, once I have the body and chassis together.

I'm familiar with your black beetle Jyrki. (it was light blue a long time ago, correct)

Good luck on the new project. I didn't think the chassis in the photos from above were Leif's, just the body. Keep us posted and thanks for info on Leif's chassis. If your new car turns out as nice as your black 65, I can't wait to see it.

Skinne´s car

Thats 727hp right there....One day I`m sure we will see this extreme machine shine.

What is it?

A WBX with a huge turbo:

86x101,6
JE custom pistons.
5.5 H-beams
Engle tsc 20 cam wit 1.3 rockers
OEM heads with offcentre guides. Big valves, thin stems.
Dry sump.
Dual trottle boddies on custom on-off intakes.
Big Charge cooler
EFI tecnology injection.

I just heard that it was dynoed again - 740hp / 880nm without nitrous. I hope the builder Skinne Bros Racing will find a driver for it and that they will be able to do a couple of decent runs with it this year. I do think it is worth mentioning that this car is street legal and is also driven on the streets in Norway.

I promised to send some pictures once I have something to show. Here you go, a mock-up of the chassis + body. The chassis was blasted, and the body cut to fit over the chassis. They're not attached to each other yet. Also, the front spindle mount wheels are just for mock-up purposes - the plan is to fit 4 wheel brakes.

Hi,
The engine was a 1715 (if I remember correctly) made from an originally 8 valve 1600 engine with a 1800 stroke. It had an Oettinger 16 valve head with turbo, intercooler and a Kuegelfisher mechanical injection. It was an old rallyecross engine and did not work very well. Would have needed a new engine block or a borejob and new pistrons. I am more of an aircooled guy anyway and due to lack of funds I left the car sitting for a long time until Henry wanted to lease the chassis.

A more interesting feature at that time however was the transaxle. It was (is as I still have it stored) a Dominator Engineering constructed piece with the gearbox from a Ford Maverick coupled to a rear end with a Frameworks live axle setup through a set of Quick change gears and a chain. Looks a bit like a mutated vw transaxle, only much heavier.

All of this happened in the early -90:ies

I am nowadays working on my top chopped drag beetle that has been with me since 1978 (=30 years). I am planning on having it ready for the next season totally rebuilt to todays tech rules.

Post by: Kotten on October 15, 2008, 13:24:58 pm
I could not get any decent runs because of different troubles with the tranny at first. When I got those figured out the engine acted funny. As soon as the boost came in the oil started spraying all over the track because of a huge blow by caused by the piston rings and oval shaped cylinders.  Made a couple of runs wit a little over 200 km/h top speed but i cannot recall the times recorded. I stopped there!

I have no digital pics of the tranny but I'll try to find the old ones and have them scanned. I will return to that in time.

Hey now! We just come by to tell you of all the things that are going on in the New World! Also, where else do you think we could steal our tools from? Heebah's garage is too far away and you guys have better tools.

Anyway, this smack-talking of yours is not without consequence. I hereby challenge Kotten to a drag race in 2009, my restored '52 (Valtteri's Revenge) against Kotten's car! All timeslips until end of July 2009 qualify and the slower driver will have to bow down 10 times (chanting "You are the Master Drag Racer, I am not worthy!") to the faster guy at the last Krem-A-Que (first friday of August). The whole event will be videotaped and uploaded to youtube and all relevant forums! Whaddaya say, will you take up the challenge?

OOPS! I seem to have stepped on the toes of the Sluts!! :P
Valtteri, I usually don't answer to challenges, but this I wouldn't miss for the world!
BeetleBug, this is a very lokal thing. The sluts usually challenge each other for a 12-pack of beer but never get to race for it....
I will however redo this thing at SCC 2009 as well if Valtteri shows up with his split!

Well you know there's nothing to race for if all of it has already been drank, eh?

Just to get the facts straight, you do accept my challenge, first and foremost domestically (including the global humiliation) and if we both show up at SCC 2009, we'll have a heads-up race there?

What ever happened to the J-Team Racing car (Johan Dryselius and Jörgen Ek) that was out of Sweden?

I lost track of Johan some time ago, after trading emails with him for a few years, and would like to know what he's up to now and/or catch up with him again.

Here are some old pics of the J-Team car:

Just for your information Valtteri.
Yesterday I started up the engine and run in the camshaft. I also ordered the ticket and depot space for SCC 2009. See you there!

Here is Håkan Norenius street/race car. It made 6.90's on the 1/8 mile in 1994 with a type 4 turbo engine.
I visited him last week and he still has it! In 1995 it was backhalved and a new, bigger engine was under construction when he decided to buy a house. It's in a shed now under a lot of dust, and it is for sale.
The bad thing is that the cage is not up to date for todays NHRA/SHRA standards.

If someone is interested, drop me a PM and I will give you the contact information.

He also has a type 4, 78x101.6 engine with drysump, turbo - T04 AR60 , 48 x 40 heads etc in pieces, all for sale. I would have bought it if I wasn't a N/A type 1 guy!

Jyrki

As some of you know, I divested the ex-Leif Nyström chassis due to differences in the rules between Sweden and Finland. So there I was, parts for an engine, a transmission, brakes, wheels and a body, but no chassis  ??? Luckily Ron Lummus Racing was able to squeese the fabrication of a chassis in their calendar. The chassis was finished in mid January, and yesterday was the big day; the container arrived and with the help of my friend Jukka we took the stuff to my garage. I must say that RLR does very, very nice work!
Last night I spent a couple of hours installing the suspension, transmission, brakes and wheels to the chassis. Well, I also put in a seat and the shifter, and sat in  ;D

Here's a teaser picture; RLR chassis #0128

Indeed, they don´t even bother to race it.... Looks exactly like when they built it, and in 100% "like new" condition.
Back then perhaps the best detailed vw racecar in Scandinavia, and since it really hasn´t been used it´s still up there with the best.

Not many Volkswagens on the drag strip in Norway when this picture was taken (believe it was only those three)
My car first, previous Swedish Turbomania, Jee`s turbo wasser next and Stig Sæthers green bug:
