Post by: Jim Ratto on August 05, 2008, 18:37:53 pm
yeah it's the race 110 profile. With Kadrons

so the bottom end is done, just need to bolt up 3.5 sump and screw on flywheel, then get top end on and dress it up with tin-wear (now a new color).

Then the bitch of the project, putting it in the car.

Yeah, get that motor off the stand and in the car.  Lucas needs to learn to synch 48's!  :)

I should be down to visit soon, and i'll bring down the Koni's and the Wedgies :)

Probably Valencia at the old municipal airport at Indian Dunes, if it's still there. They used to film the Black Sheep TV series there in the 70's and the A Team in the 80's.

you'll need aother tank at least even after that. I think there's a landing pad in Ludlow.

Hey Shubee, if you put the red seal against the washer there is no way to know what torque you are applying to the 12mm studs. I use Loctite 574 under the 12mm washer, and to ensure proper torque, use moly lube on threads and on underside of nut. Gene Berg even said this "was the way to do it". The red seal stuff often comes apart on the threads when you unscrew them. Most nylocks are crap quality and I would never apply 30ft lb to them.

Hi Jim, what sealant did you use under the cylinders. I use Dirko HT from Elring. (Red Stuff).

Just checked the boxes, Dirko and Curil are from the same company Elring. Curil T is a bitch to remove from case-halves,
but it makes a "dry" engine. Lately i'm using the Permatex aviation stuff for cases. Perfect results and easy to remove.

Ted, Just Admit It.

Hi Mike, yeah, in place of the Engle FK45 I have a Pauter R6E8 in it, a smidge more CR, and larger intake ports/runners. The R6E8 is 272 deg @ .050 and with Scat 1.25 it gives as much as .528" at valve.

It starts with the engine. You get it all prettied up and installed in the car. Then you will notice the car looks a bit worn next to the shiny engine and you will have the car torn apart for a repaint.  ;D

So how does it run. You get that Porsche power band you been looking for?

it runs the same down low, really... grunty, maybe not 100% as crisp off idle, but after 4000 it's definitely got a temper. I've been nice to it though....has about 40 mi on it.

How's your valve spring tatoo?

Title: Re: night at the engine stand
Post by: Jim Ratto on August 21, 2008, 18:07:34 pm
How's your valve spring tatoo?

it was more like a brand....  3D imprint...

so after 3 days of commuting, no issues, floor is still dry under motor, and this combo turned out easier to drive than I expected. My impressions are that it runs much the same in doclie light throttle driving as the last setup did, it does seem to make usable torque about 3-500 rpm higher BUT it responds faster, if that makes sense. There is a hilly, narrow canyon road that I commute home on, Box Canyon in Canoga Park, and many of the corners are very tight, 15-25mph and steep.... the new combo wants to run above 2300 rpm, where the old setup would pull 2000.... BUT the FK45/wedgeport combo would have this big hole under 3700 or so if I stomped it, the Pauter cam/044's doesn't give the same "dead spot" in power band, it just climbs rev range, and really comes on just under 5K.... it's still fresh, so I am shifting it @ 6K, but it is still pulling. I'm going to drive it down to Glendale Saturday morning, we'll see how it does keeping up with the 85mph idiots on I-5
