Title: My Aussie callook tribute
Post by: GASBNR on January 03, 2009, 08:57:33 am
HI,
I've been hanging round here for a while now, thought I'd post some of the stuff going on my Garage here in Melbounre Australia.
I'm a cal look fan and massive EMPI fan, arn't we all?
I'm from the UK but live downunder.
My old user EMPIKG came from my 1960 Karmann Ghia, blested with loads of EMPI bits.........but has since been sold,(not the goodies) then came a Birch green square not my usual
CAL LOOK theme'd car, that went and I spent nearly a year looking for a original Ragtop late 50's early 60's to build the Callook car I'd always wanted, I finally got one back in NOV 08.
Then out of the blue I bought a 56 oval...........................my 5yr sons car...................he wants to build deano.........so lets see what happens.

Its been a while since I started this post, but fresh back from EBI3 and the UK I have a bit of time to post some updates.

I found a Aronson style decklid locally when advertising for a  wanted fibreglass front bonnet........I had already sorted an EMPI rear decklid.
You don't pass on those sort of things........might go on my 63 sunroof.

Got some JAVA scoops while in the UK, thanks Jonny

I have loosely put the beam in place, its a 4.5in narrowed and isn't the one I had planned to use I wanted a 2in one but kinda like this one.

That decklid is cool, really Aronson STYLE, not just Aronson! It's different, but nice as well.

still hanging around air cooled bugs.

Thanks empi kg,

Love reading the posts on this forum.
First time I have placed anthing, apologies for the pics, I'll try & get them better this time.
No EBI3 for me, but did manage to make VW Panic @ Uplands & Bugorama @ Vegas last sept/oct.
Came back with the basis of my 2276 as hand luggage, like everyone else!
Great to hear from other guys in Melbourne doing similar.

Fabs,
The 66 top chop is going to be "nostagia styled", few twists, floorpanned caged car, 4" narrowed beam, 1" trans raise, Ive made a Lawless inspired rollcage pan/fork frame,
I had in mind a budget nostalgia racer, but budget is one of those funny words!
It has a long way to go tho!

cheers
essex

Well this didn't go quite to plan, but its on the road.
not the callook I was heading for either.

36hp of pure power. doh.

not really sure what I'm going to do with it, other than drive it

I have been distracted by a new arrival hence not taking the oval down the gasser road,

I have always wanted a callook car, so when the chance of an anthracite 63 standard beetle came along I just had to have it.

Fabs won't be as good as yours ;)

I have collected loads of bits over the years and hope to get this one right.

I sold my 56 Oval and bought a 62 Australian standard in the hope of building that cal look car I alway wanted but it was too rusty and banged up.

I had this 63 ragtop starting as a rolling project and against all odds it nearly finished, thanks a great mate

http://postimg.org/image/6c5ghkew9/

not quite the norm round here but I just bought a Australian 1961 one year only rhd ragtop, is this going to be the cal look one...........the berg cranked 1776 w ida's in the garage says maybe

I'm serial lurker, so thought I'd better put up the the most current pic of my car,
Its a factory rhd Australian built GOLDE ragtop.

Currently in the garage is another one of these but an Aussie 61only beryl green ragtop and a sedan........which I hope to be my Call look car when the blue one has been moved on.
I have been stock piling bits for about 10yrs so time has come to put together a fast street car, saying that I probably won't be able to get it registered here, might end up a strip car.
