Title: DKK Steve Wilkerson
Post by: Steve DKK on May 06, 2009, 20:29:13 pm
Bug-in was great.  I could not believe everyone was there...
About 2-3 years ago (right after the VW trends DKK issue) I tried to find any remains of the culb.
Came up with nothing.

Wow it has been a while since I've seen photos from that shoot.  Scott from Hot VWs took the pictures... then to my surprise 2 years later I saw my car on the cover of VW trends in a magazine stand.
i still have a copy somewhere...

Can't wait until June

I still have those shorts, but I only bring them out for special occasions, typically Christmas and the 4th of July. (Sorry Cal Look Loungers from the UK)  You don't celebrate that holiday you know...

The pyramid is DKK vs DVB ( It was not about style, it was a test of endurance)  Barb and Joni are on top for the bule team and DKKs own Lisa is brave enough to top the DKK pile.

STEEEVE! Stoked that you're finally here. Now... if we can only get Dave Fong, Alex Gonzales, and whomever else we're missing. I'm guessing that you're attending The Classic, in June, yes?

That was the most fun I had at a Bug-In since the O.C.I.R. ones. Not that the previous ones were bad, just a lot better since our family is slowly gettin' back together. Very cool, seeing you that day.

That would be cool... another orange D.K.K. car. Get a hold of Randy Long (vwdweeb) if you want club stickers. Unless, of course, you got 'em at Bug-In, already.

Steve - it was really great to see you!  Sorry that I did not know it was you at first.  You look great!

I really think those shorts should come out for the classic - that should be classified as a special occasion.

So many great memories with you in them.  Barb, Joanie & I would always hang out or around your club more than ours.  Your club had all the good looking guys in it (no offense DVB guys), but you were also younger, and more fun!  Any excuse to hang with DKK, we were there!

It will be great to catch up with you at the classic weekend!

See You Soon!

Susy

Susy,
Nice seeing you too.  Looking forward to June...

Story on the Ghia...  that was a Whittier Blvd street racing thing...  set up a street race with a Mustang, some kid with a 351, carb and headers.  Easy money...  Instant win when they asked if you had a Porsche Motor.   We made our way to Shoemaker to line up...  Anyway, the procedure was a third party would hold the money.  These guys were reluctant, ends up they did not have the money and were planning to collect if they won and split if they lost.  bad form...   i tried to get him to race for rotors.  (the loser is stranded there) no luck... So, he ended up taking a swing at me, got into a little fight, he got beat up a little.  I don't think he ever hit me.  it was a 5 second thing...  So when he left he backed up over the Ghia.  His back bumper was against my windshield tires still spinning.  I dove in his drivers window got a piece of the steering wheel and some hair and ended up letting go at about 20 mile an hour...   His name was "Rusty'...
Lisa did the "OUCH" with lipstick.
Car ended up getting stolen way back when 1982.  I still expect to find it one day.

Today I have a 59 Vert, 66 type 2 and drag car in process...

WOW! Beth... was your car a red '66 or '65? I think that I saw you pull in and park in the back. Wish I would've known that was you. Dunno if you remember me or not. At any rate, good to see you and Lisa back.

I just sent an email to Dave Fong to join us ;-) I hope he will join. He already shared some stories with me and apparently he had some very cool cars  8)

Yep... already tried that, last year, with Dave. Guess time shall tell.

Wow, try to show up with your sister to the Classic...
Did you really expect to recognize someone.  After 25 years you need a guide to reintroduce you.

Junior was mine giude Bug In.  I just happened to see the stickers on his 53

I think your right we need name tags or something.. LOL  My son was going to go with me until I told him I was taking the bug and not his car.  The red bug is a 66, dad wont let me change anything he thinks it should be all natural.  After Nicks and looking around I came home and called my dad and told him we had the only vw with the original steering wheel.  I am still laughing... He has got to let me change somethings on the bugs its driving me crazy..  Is Nicks every Friday??  How often does everyone get togther there??

Beth, Nick's Cruise Night is hosted by Der Kleiner Panzers and they're usually every first Sunday evening. Except for Bug-In and The Classic, because those events take place on Sundays, so Cruise Night gets moved to Friday.

The '66 looked nice when you pulled in. Leave the car alone... it looks nice. Unless, of course, you want to bring down the nose, add some nice alloy wheels, a cool steering wheel, and a huge engine. Either way, nice car. I had my original steering wheel too, up until a week ago. Nothing wrong with a stock wheel. To each their own. Lisa's Split had a nice two spoke that was painted Corvette Yellow to match, remember?

Fred,  I am supprised that my dad let me put a stereo in the bug...  I want to lower the front and oh yah a much bigger engine...  My boat had all that power and I feel like the Flinstones in the bug.  I know Dylan's car is always going to be slow but thats another story.  I miss my speed, the power of an engine...  Oh boy I am going over the edge again...

Geeeeeeez Fred, How do you remember this stuff?  I loved my steering wheel on the split.

I'm quite sure that little red bug that Beth is talking about is staying "as-is".  My Dad has been trying to sell it from what I hear.  I thought it might show up at Bug-In with a For Sale sign but it never showed.

Hee! Hee! You don't remember me very well, Lisa. I'm all about the details. Blame my parents... they were very detail minded and kept everything spotless. Besides, back in an era when everyone had to have an aftermarket steering wheel, I always admired the fact that you opted to retain the original bat wing two spoke one. Then, took it to the next level and color matched it to your car. You were years ahead of the crowd with that stuff. I see people doing that now.

That's what I always dug about our club; the full throttle diversity of us all and we had the cars to back it up. But, wait... we've hi-jacked Steve's thread. Back to you, Steve. Any pics of your current rides that you'd like to share? There's one in particular (coughORANGEcough) that I'd love to see.

Hey I just found this while searching around on the Lounge.  Did you know that your car was in a French Magazine Too?  This is from a post by my new friend Nico in France.  I found it under the thread "what did you score at the swap-meet" or something like that.  What a hoot  :D

I opened the garage door to let some light on it and took a picture.  the sun is out today so i will take it out and take a few pictures.  I will take it out to day and take some photos.
Just a driver, little 1776 kadron motor, I will trailer it down for the classic.

Looks naked without stickers...

The oval will take care of my need for speed.  My goal is to be running it by next spring.

The best...   I remember lots of the people but not most of the cars.  I know I know...  Shame on me. There have been a few years and a few margaritas between then and now.  I am really looking forward to getting together in June.
So yes, I remember Kevin... I remember he had a vert ghia.  I assume this is not it ???  Duh...

At bug in I felt like The Lost Boys trying to recognize Peter Pan in Robin Williams.  We have all changed a little in the last 27 years. (except Lisa)

Welcome to The Lounge, Marc. Great seeing you at Bug-In, too. Please tell Vince that we miss him, as well.
Hey Mark, it was awsome to see you and the gang again. I hope to make it out to Nicks next time. See ya.

Welcome aboard, Marc!

I haven't stopped saying "hee hee hee" since last Sunday!
Hey Dan, I haven't stopped smiling and thinking about bugs since the Bug In. Helen, and I had a great time. Thanks!

Right on, Marc. Equally as cool to meet your wife, too. C'mon out to Nick's on the first Sunday in June and the Friday before the Classic. GOOD TIMES.

My God, Steve... it looks GREAT in black! Best color EVER for a car. But I wouldn't want to keep one maintained. Too much work. Sure looks good, though.

Rick's Rule = Black is a wonderful color for someone elses car!  ;D

I've only had one black car; an '89 Thunderbird Super Coupe. Looked great for about 15 minutes after I washed and waxed it... too much work.

I do love that car - just remove the bumpers  ;) :)

Nope. Perfect AS-IS  ;)

Nope... one major flaw... the name on the registration... it should be mine!  ;D

I had forgot until you mentioned it. You should tell the story!

It's gonna be great to see you too!
