Who of You guys run on E85 having carbs on the engine (not EFI).

Did any of You have problems with melted orings and other gaskets?
Any other problems spotted (except making big holes in jets) to runnE85 on carbed engine?

I think I might have a cure for that (especially melted orings).

We can make all kind of orings and rubber gaskets that are alcohol proof so they can be used in carburetors running on E85.

If any one is interested just give me a sing and I'll try to count the prices of those orings and other things that are being destroyed by E85 in the carb.

This fuel is a really good stuff for racing and its cheep burns cleaner and COOLER Cheesy so why it has to be a privilege of EFI engines Cheesy

Write all things that you spotted.

Cheers Tom.

Make kits, and we will buy them!!!    Grin

I run 40DRLA's, and have thought about the E85 in the future.

I can get them for DRLA's or IDF's too.

for now I've got IDA gaskets for fuel chamber.

one question, does any one have dimentions of IDA o-rings???

IDF and DRL'a I've got gasket kits (with orings) also can be made og rubber alkohol resistant.

There aren't any O-rings in a Weber 48IDA.
A stock unmodified 48IDA is already compatible with alcohol.  There's nothing you need to do other than increase the jets.

Hi Bruce,

on spanish IDAs there´s a O-ring beneath the (push-type) pump-jets. On italian IDAs there´s a fibre ring under the (screw-type) pump-jets. At least that´s the case with my carbs...
Bye,

I am very interested in running E85 in the race car I'm building. One of my buddies tried to run it in his bug last year. He is very sharp when it comes to jetting carbs and stuff so he had no problems with the conversion and the car ran vey well. The only problem was that the needle valves kept getting stuck. He replaced them with glass ball valves and changed all the fuel lines and the tank but could never completely cure it. He evetually gave up and switched back to 104 octane. I would love to hear from someone who has successfully done it.

Yeah, I would love to hear about success stories as well. I am really thinking about going E85 with IDAs and would love to be reassured that changing xx components and doing xx tricks will enable me to run my IDAs trouble free with E85.

It's just that I would have to flycut my heads to raise compression for getting full advantage of the stuff and I'd rather not do that unless I'm sure IDAs can be modified to run it without hassle. =)
