not really sure if its gonna end up as a cal looker, remains to be seen at the end lol...we purchased this 76 south african import a while back, mainly for the engine at first  but decided to put it back on the road as its been sitting since the late 80`s in a garage in wales....the engine is now a 1641cc..with a few goodies to warm it over, uprated cam, followers, valves, springs, twin webers, oil pump etc...a pertronix ignition will fire it up...a roll cage we had laying about has gone in for mockup...2 bucket seats...the interior will be bare to say the least...aluminium door panels, bead rollered to give a diamond pleat effect a plain black carpet in the footwell again with ally kick panels.....we got hold of a pre 65 4" narrowed, lowered beam  which is now on...next job  rebuild the gearbox and drop the back a spline....this is my sons project, his first build of a car...hes funded it by work through his holidays..the functional parts hes bought have all been the best quality while the less functional parts, running boards etc have been budget...it`ll be his daily driver...colour will be darkest metallic purple....the wheels were gonna be centrelines but after media blasting the spare GT it came up a treat so i`ll do the rest and refurbish them, a bit of a link to its past...

the blue door is the original colour it was painted , denim blue..apparently there were 144 made in that colour in south africa so quite rare i suppose...

being built in our front garden, no room in the garage lol

yeah one of the better colours i`ve seen...the rest of the car the guy who owned it before us had bare-metalled it and re-sprayed it black but i`m not sure he used the correct primer as its flaking badly back to bare metal...should make it easier to strip when the time comes...my son already has a `72 beetle as his daily
