Hey guys. Im Mike, new on here, just stumbled over while checking out a build thread for another GTV. Thought itd be cool to share what Im up to, and see if you guys have any ideas on how to make my GTV better.
My 71 was a daily driver for 3 years before I decided to tear it down and make it my dream bug. We hit a few snags along the way, but I assure you it looks great... Keep reading. It wasnt a sunroof car, and I had way too much sentiment for my car so we did a complete roof graft.
Some hinge issues caused the door to sag a bit, the culprit was a rusty/roted hinge plate that was repaired.
The roof graft was nerve wracking, but it came out real nice.
Heres some pics from when we started to see come color. I opted to go back with the original L54D Marina Blau. I also had some real nice hood badges made up for my local club that fit perfectly onto the stock emblems pedestal.
Starting to see the whole car come together.
A friends dad works as a chemical engineer, and was able to resurrect my original bases and chrome them. Thankfully there werent any pits or creases in the metal to keep them from looking smooth. They look PERFECT.
With all the details, the C-stripe kit is what really makes it come together to look like a GTV. I bought this set from a gent up on thesamba, and they are great quality. I was very impressed with what showed up inthe package.
Front stripes
Rear stripes, like my old New York plate :-)
Bought a set of Original Sprintstars for $500, had them powdercoated, and sprayed in the black myself. Then had them ceramic coated clear. They look great, the black came out a bit more glossy than Id have liked, but They still look sweet.
I picked up a real nice original GT wheel off thesamba. It has the spoke polished up, but its MINT
A fresh 1914cc, from Chico Performance in Acadia CA. I know its bigger than what wouldve been in a GTV, but I had to make some attempt to keep up with a few local bugs and thier 2010's.
