Love the pic of the car on the road, were you using the slicks ? brave man..... Ritchie, yes, all I did was to bolt my 2276cc into the car, slicks and all! That was certainly a thrill ride around town, especially when the Fullerton Police pulled right up side me, as I turned into Dairy Queen. He looked at the car real hard, and then at me, and must have decided it wasn't worth the effort. He then pulled away, gasp, and we made it to Dairy Queen! I will never forget that weekend, thanks to Chris Morley. John Preston later told me he loved the story I wrote about that stunt, and was stokes that we used his old race car.

What weird stuff did you do to ol`gassers......?
- Stripped the Whip It- paint off the Mouse Trap - Bolted together parts of the Mouse Trap - Towbared the Mouse Trap and The Race Shop Ghia all over So Cal, behind a rental car - Towbared DER RENNLAUFER to the shipping docks in Jacksonville and hauled it cross the Atlantic - Unearthed the mighty BUG MAGIC ... one hot and humid evening in Central Florida ....and still going at it....

here's some picture of the mitchell 912
get this....Bill Mitchell was always pushing the limits..!!!!!!...NHRA did NOT like his Chopped vw bug..so what does he do the next year ?...he produced a bug that was not chopped!!! but channeled 5 " over the tube chassis!!!!!....so NHRA complained about that !!!!!!!...so what does he do next.??..brings out a CHOPPED & CHANNELED !!!!...PORSCHE..!!!!!!!.....to really push there buttons!!!!!.......i think after they complained about this he said the hell with ya..!!!!!...the rest is history.!!!!..the people that "TRY" to contact him today,,,will have no luck..he still has a bad taste in his mouth until this day..thirty some odd years later.!!!!!

Was the chassis the same one he ran in the Thunder Bug or did he build a new on for the Porsche? Is the first Thunder bug around at all I sure would love to restore that one.

I wondered this myself, but I think it was a different chasis. When I bought the car I found every story I could locate. Seems like there were a lot of details setting them apart, but I cant remember now
