Cool. But I'll never understand why magazines (not all of 'em) insist on splitting images from page to page. It's really lame. Wrecks an otherwise great image. I see it in skateboarding, surfing, and VW mags.
Other than that, nice sanitary vehicle, right there. Only thing I'd change are the pulleys. Solid black ones.

Frenchy Whew! Thanks for restoring my faith in you, Frenchy. Just kidding... I didn't think that you'd put those on.

This was the way that some of us use to mount the traction bar before the Gene Berg traction bar brackets were available. Also I remember that Steve Tims at the time when I worked for him and Steve was building the Goofy Grape he was looking for some type of traction bar to use and I had a pair of solid bars which believe it or not they were from the Navy base bunk bed and they had the thick square tubing so we were not worried of them bending under hard take off I just laugh at time thinking on what we had to find to make thing work.

The other part I kept before selling the car was the Gene Berg signature series shifter which I still have in my collection. I also have another Gene Berg shifter for my Ghia to be.

How about the way the traction bar is mounted to the body? That's different. Frenchy's right on cue... that's exactly how mine was mounted on my orange car. Sign of the times, I guess.

I think the Volksworld write up mentioned you built this with your son Frenchy - is he still in the scene?
And I have to agree, the 67 was nice, but the Oval is the dogs danglies!

IMO, True Cal-Look car built by one of the best in the VW hobby. I've seen cars that didn't have the history and high quality of this car sell for the same if not higher prices than what it is offered for. I wish I had the $$$, I'd but it.
The generator and crank pulleys were not on the car when it was sold.
Frenchy
The pulleys are nice but I they seem to be out of place on this car. I thought about mounting the traction bar this way but was wondering if on a hard take off the body might bend? Love the car.

My son Marc is in the hobby and helps me a lot with my other projects I build an 1835 for his 1969 and gave it to him for Christmas a few years ago. He is now building a To#¤ta Cressida with a single turbo motor from a Supra. He is planning to help me with my NSU this year.

I really liked that car! It's cool with the 2276 now, but something about the little NPR motor did it for me. I remember it at a cruise night once, Frenchy reached in through the drivers door window, flicked the key, the motor instantly came to life and settled and a smooth idle. I was very impressed! Initially, it was a big inspiration for me with AssHull's car (but then the plan evolved!)... simplicity at it's finest.

I remember when Frenchy put that car up for sale on the old Cal-Look forum. If I remember correctly he wanted around 12k at the time which was a lot of money, and I only wished I had the funds. Now years later the car still looks great although I agree with Zach I would have kept the NPR motor, but it seems things have not changed for me cash wise since I still don't have the funds!!!
I am glad to see the car is still looking good though and somebody will be happy with it.

To let everyone know the original engine that was in the car when I sold it to Dennis was a 1755 cc 69x90 NPR soon after Dennis wanted a bigger engine and transmission for the car. I than removed the engine and trans from the car and Dennis was nice enough to give me the power plan for my Ghia project. So I build a brand new engine and the transmission is from KCR.
Thanks
Frenchy
