  It was bound to happen to someone. That right lane was trouble all day. Thankfully Ron is okay.

Then Zack Sacette (SP?) did a 720 and saved it,
E-Girl totalled her car and took a trip to the hospital,
another street car wrecked and was totalled.

The track was a mess! I understand the show must go on, but this was crazy. The PRA and Firebird may need to look in the mirror and ask if they should have cancelled the drag protion of the event after the issues the NHRA had a few weeks ago.

I don't want to think what will happen in a few weeks at the All Harley Drags?

I remember when Clyde Berg came over to the UK nearly 10 years ago and couldn't believe how well prepared our track was - he said on some VW events in the states, the track crew brush the dust off and call it done. Sad It can't be mere coincidence that so many cars crashed, can it? At least all drivers were ok, and it shows the need for a well constructed car with full cage if you are doing some serious times - people with the experience that Ron and Esther have behind the wheel don't just crash for no reason.

It had nothing to do with track prep.

The Hunsaker/Fleming car survived quite well,it looked like it was fixable without major financial pain,as the 1st person to reach Ron after he got it stopped[it had returned to the right way up] it was good to here himn confirm he was ok,aware enough to turn eveerything off and sit still untill the medics arrived to checkj him out,he was walking around 5 minutes later with no problems.

Spoke with Dad (Ron) earlier and he is OK – just mad as hell. Car is being stripped tomorrow night and taken over to Lummus for repair...

Firebird Raceway has its own reputation for crashes, it seems... sucks for the drivers that crashed, but I'm glad the drivers are okay.

I'm glad everyone was okay.
Cars can be repaired (although financially and emotionally painful)
People can't.

Wow, I am glad to hear everyone is OK. It's a reality check for everyone to have proper safety equipment or the results could have been dramatically different. Keep us updated.

That top photo was taken on Saturday morning, around 9:30am, during a HVWs photo session. Less than 24 hours later, it was wrecked. Heart breaking....

Thank God no one was badly hurt, frankly I'm getting tired of the RIP thing.

Is there a lesson we can all learn here?  I don't think you can find a better prepped

or piloted race car than the Hunsaker/Fleming car. So doe's the blame lie solely with

Firebird Raceway, inherently unstable race cars or a combination of both?

If it's the car...then lets fix it.  If it's the track....let them fix it.

Personally I'd like to see some wind tunnel data on Beetles, but of course I'll need some

help interpreting the data.  Wink

What is it with the Phoenix track Huh
I visited the track a couple of times back in the late 90íes. And on both occasions a fast car ends upside down in the right lane. Are there crosswinds that interfeer at the decelleratation area or something ?

Perhaps it is time to take the event to S.I.R http://www.sirace.com or over to Speedworld http://www.speedworlddragstrip.com

With a change of venue, perhaps a name change also? Try, South-West Bug-O-Rama  ??  Should the event be relocated, perhaps the Firebird track operators may take note that they are loosing track bookings, hence lost revenue? Only effective way to get the attention of a track operator, is to grab them by their wallet.
