Doing some homework on older VW shifters and I was trying to figure out, what year did Empi release the Eliminator shifter? All of the catalogs I have do not show it, other than the E-ZR and the Quick-Shift kit... Could it be after the Lee Eliminator buy out? As this shifter design mirrors that of several other shifters (Superior, FV, etc).

The first mention was in the 1972 catalog.
