Probably a question for the "ahem" older guys, does anyone recall anyone fitting Stromberg 97's back in the day?...I know they have always been one of the hot rodders favorite carbs but, my curiosity is getting the better of me Wink

      I think some of us use to have the single Holley Bug Spray and we had many issues with flat spots. So we moved on to the Zenith which were a lot better carburetor and even using two of them with the early Berg linkage.

EMPI used to sell a kit with duel Strombergs with variable venturies. The linkage was basically what Gene Berg used to pattern his linkage from.

They were Zenith-Stromberg CD 150's John.
They also used on one the Empi-Shorrock supercharger.
The Stromberg 97 in question is a different carb entirely.

Thanks for the feedback guys, my friend clive is the man behind the Stromberg 97's and only you guys would appreciate the lengths he has gone to for perfection, it's taken years and they are a lovely product. We may be getting into a bit of R&D with him on a VW engine, I know this is a cal-look forum but, they would look great on a hot rod inspired bug Wink.. be interesting to see how they work out..I will keep you posted

The old Stromberg 97 (or should I say new ones) look very similar to the old Holley Bugspray. I ran a Holley in the early days too. It actually worked really well for bracket racing my first motor, since they worked best wide open.  It would be cool to see your buddy make them usable on a VW. My Bugspray I ran on a plenum type manifold and it worked well.  I am sure with the right jetting and accellerator pump mods the 97 will work.

       I have the original pairs of 97 Strombergs in my show case and bought a new pair of them which are now on my 32 and they are made in England and they are the best are only $1,000

      Correct $1,000 for the pair money well spend. I adjusted them once 9 months ago and still run smooth.

I imagine they have the same bolt pattern as a Bugspray, Zenith, DCNF, etc. So manifolds wouldn't be hard to find. Can anyone verify that??
