Belgium Blue is almost ready for his 9" attempt

Hi Everybody,
Yes I’m still alive.
As the most of you know I have been very busy with training this winter for my second hobby ( bike racing) but off course we
didn't sit still with the Gemini, Christoph (PROFORMANCE) and me did so many changes to the engine to find the last pony’s, '58 carb's went to Gene Berg to get there special flow threat,
New VW paradise pistons to get higher compression, new exotic custom cam, 1.6 rockers, a lot of hours shortening the intake collectors, maximum head porting,
shawn Geers Vacuum pump, result is 85 litres through the Carb's.
Tomorrow we gone start it up and next week dyno, last year we got 285HP and 10.38" I'll keep you updated from this year results.

better not try it there if you only got bycicle experience (2 wheels) and not an aviation brevet (no wheels)... it will be good to see it run though

Sorren,
Did you measure the Vacuum?
We both reduced the AN16 plumbing to AN12, allready asked Shawn if that can be the problem?

Yeah, I don't have much pressure at the system. JPM said that I should make sure that the oil pressure stays over 4 bar, and it did.
On the dyno I had no problems, and it gave close to 10hp before the dyno got destroyed, so maybe even more.
It's when I race it the problem comes...

Me too. I suppose it's to avoid pressure in the case or something to help with a dry sump?
If anybody could teach us about that ...

My understanding is that vacuum pump = no air in the case = less friction on the crank, the rods etc & less resistance on the pistons = more hp.

Like a breather I suppose. As this pump is use on very Hi Po engine, by the hole of the generator stand or gas pump.

Hi guys,
This evening we went on the dyno @ Pat's and after a few runs we had to stop due to big problems with the vacuum pump.. it's pulling shit loads of oil out of the engine, so we did some whipping and cleaning! Also the wires and electronical stuff suffered a lot of problems due to the oil leakage.. we could just manage a few runs by changing the settings on the carb's and ignition. Have to figure it out and will check the complete engine tomorrow!
Keep you guys up to date..
Cheers,
Christoph

ok now we know what the vacuum pump is working for
I also join the other estimations ,this engine is a very awsome work.
Can you tell us a bit more about the vacuum pump ,where is it connected and where does the pump bring the oil back to the engine ,we did not know anything about the function. So please let us not die to be dull.

Hi Christoph
What a shame that you guys also have problems with the vacuum pump!
Did you run some pulls first on the dyno without the belt on to the pump?
Cheers

hey. as i see it you guys have the same vacum setup as sp. meby there is a reason geers and pat downs run the wacum pump with a an16 direct from valve cover to pump and then to a breather box. and if the engine can pull in falsh air it will suck out all the oil. make shure you have no leak. take the star machine can off run it over with the car and make direct hoses. make shure the oil pressure is over 3,5 bar at all time. if not put on a autocraft 1,5 stage pump so you can suck the oil out of the valve cover.

I would let it run without vacuum pump . It sounds like the pump pulls out oil wich is important for lubrication . also i have heard about , if it is too much it can pull out the oil of the bearings
