Late night question for everyone.   I took the top end of my motor apart because I found some aluminum in the filter.  Everything looks better than I could hope for, even the oil pump.  The rod bearings don't look bad but I'll replace them anyway.  To my question:  the back side of the rod journals have some marks on them.  They don't look that bad and I can't feel the marks.  My question is what would cause the marks to be only on the backside?   If something went through I would think the marks would round the circumference.  The marks are lines consistent with debris going through.  Maybe it was the 24 dyno pulls.

I could maybe tomorrow,  but the crank is still in the case and I can't get a good picture.

Ok, do you mean the underside of the crank on the rod journal? how do the cap side rod bearings look? worse than the rod side?

Maybe a little worse.   So at top dead center,  the part of the journal that is marked is the cap side, like you say.
