So was pin striping ever popular with the Cal-look crowd? It seems to have been popular on race cars from the era. We are not talking wild Von Dutch style striping, but some nice subtle accent strips like on Inch Pincher or Tar Babe.

Isn't there a black looker in DKP that has little blue pinstripes?
Its one from the late 70ies...

Voila, here it is, Dave Kanase"s one

Not that I like pinstriping, but I'm sure it was around in the seventies...

i perfectly agree with monkiboy.
pinstriping is a fever toohigh in europe at this moment. people could pinstripe their dog if things go on like these days.

there is a reason for this i think: after centuries of flames people discovers that pinstriping are a nice form of art.
tht's ok, i agree, but not for the fact i love pizza i can eat pizza everyday.  Lips Sealed

pinstriping is everywhere....even on cal look cars.

do someone remember olive green "i-girl" ingrid (the french girl) before pinstriping? was simply right....just before.
don't take it bad ingrid....only my opinion. Kiss

pinstriping is an hotrod thing. gasser is near to hotrodding. cal look is near to muscle cars. another thing. just different.

lowfastbus: volkswagen was produced in over 20 millions!!!
everything you do someone did before!!!! but i think we are doing a general speech....about genral tendance. the car you posted is evidently an exception that confirm the rule!!! Wink

Pinstriping was quite common on Callook cars, not everybodies cup of tea , but remember we were inspired by gassers of the time. Some did it , some did not, but is was a callook phenomenom.

absolutely! pinstriping doesn't fit into the cal look philosophy which is all about function above form. but it can be a very nice addition to a pre-cal look era car, or a gasser.

I believe he coined his own question, but "Who the hell is Shakey Jake?"

THE Pinstriper/designer extroidinare of the early So California era,(See early Bug-In posters-he drew them!) his pinstriping work was found on the very nicest cars.
Upon his passing, without someone to equal his ability, the trend somewhat faded.

If your in Nor-Cal/ So. Ore, this guy owes me a few favors. He was buddies with Von Dutch and pinstriped most of the bikes in the Hells Angels. He keeps wanting to stripe my car, but it really isn't my taste.
