While the 48IDF does not share the mystique and shock value of the infamous 48IDA, it is more than well equipped to perform on serious, large displacement VW engines, street, strip or both. The 48IDF carburetors come with big 40mm venturies, out of the box, which will allow a 2276cc to make approx 225hp at 6900rpm. The IDF is more compact than the IDA, allowing the use of real air filters and freeing up some room in the engine compartment. The IDF also features a diaphragm type accelerator pump, which reacts instantaneously (unlike the piston type in IDA) and is more sensitive to throttle action (less fuel wasted). Idle and transition are more forgiving as well, over the 48IDA.
The Redline-Weber kit includes 2 Weber 48IDF carbs, 2 alloy manifolds, cross-bar linkage, fuel line and tee, 2 air filter assemblies, all gaskets and all hardware. We can custom jet the carbs before we send them to you, based on your engine specs, for a small charge (the as supplied jetting will run, but we can make them run better).
This kit is ideal for the 2000-2300cc street engine where maximum peak power is wanted at over 6000rpm. We do not suggest this kit for smaller cc engines, or mildly tuned large engines.
