Runs with Scissors

« on: November 19, 2007, 20:56:52 pm »

Was going through my VW mag collection over the weekend and noticed all the old cartoons that used to be in VW mags. (Mostly trends I think) I had forgotten about it, but it got me to thinking about how most hot rod mags have cartoons. Several of them were pretty good. Why don't VW mags do this anymore? Anyone have any favorite VW related cartoons? Just some thing I noticed.

well they went from cartoons, to bad photocopy art, to bad photoshop ads, to what we have today.

another constant lost over the years are the bikinigirls. not sure how they would look today if you compare the girls from the eighties and early 90's to those of the mid 90's...

(i know you guys are all eager to post pictures now!) maybe we can make this a tread "post with picture"

i will update mine later at home

KS sent me this one years ago, since it showed a VW with Anglia side panels... Hmm, I wonder why?

Remember CARtoons magazine?  I think they did two VW-themed issues before their demise.  I had a subscription and remember one for certain, think it is up in my attic.

They'd be interesting to get hold of.  The Japanese magazine Street VW's has some cool illustration work, the European Bug-In cover is fairly typical and my avatar is an illustration they did of my car for a feature and though the car never had those things on the lights I still like it, they do a cartoon illustration for most of the features. No bikini girls though.

I have the Cartoon's VW and Porsche issues. I always loved that magazine, kind of like Mad or Cracked for car nuts
