For me this was a great weekend much like the times in the past when everything was about working on the cars.

First while I was sitting on the throne the doorbell rang.  Of course the dog went crazy barking and wouldn't shut up.  When I got to the door the dog was going bonkers.  My neighbor who as gotten into VW powered sand rails was there asking if I had a valve spring to replace one on his engine that broke.  I checked my stash.  I had one off an old head and I had some used double springs.  He had heavy duty single springs on his engine.   I checked an outer from my old double and it checked better than one of his singles so he was set.  I heard the sound of that engine a short while later about the same time the phone rang.  A member of my VW club Wolfsburg Registry was calling about some rocker stands.  It seems that another member had found some Berg solid rockers shafts etc. but still needed the stands.  I was sure I had some, but went to check.  Yep I got them....  we were going to hang up when the other guy got on the phone.  "Hey Don do you have any crank shims?"  he asked.  I did and they decided to come over with the engine they were putting together.  They had just gotten off the phone when it rang again.  Another member was calling to see if I had a driver side spindle for his '66.  I was sure I did, but when I went to look for it I couldn't find it.  He came over anyway.  We were able to set the end play on the one engine and I gave up a set of rocker stands to a friend in need.  Some fun.

I woke up in the middle of the night with the spindles on my mine.  I went out in the morning and finally found them in my collection of VW junk.  Called the friend and he stopped by and picked up a stock '66 driver side spindle.  This was a great weekend much like the times when the club was in it's infancy.  Everyone would help each other out no charge.  Sure was fun for me!

It is people like Donny that make this hobby great. And the wonderful thing is, his type is not the minority when it comes to VW people.

I was lazy this weekend and didn't do anything to the '67 other than walk around it and kick the tires a few times. Wife has me running all over 'ells half acre doing Christmas stuff.

Louis, Christmas stuff is important.  You will reflect on it in the future with a smile.  I am sure glad that I have my shopping done!
