« on: January 21, 2008, 23:12:16 pm »

I know this is a REALLY LONG SHOT but I am wondering if anyone out there (preferably in the States)
with a NOS VW AS21 crankcase - this is the "universal" type with the mount for a Type2.

I am not bothered about cost as this is something I REALLY want, its for a future engine project I
have planned for PROJECT 66  Wink Smiley

So does anyone have any leads - let me know if you have ANY info

Cheers Guys  Smiley

an AS 21 is not a universal case... it doesnt have the hole for the pickuptube off the type3. well mine hasn't and i heard they need to be lnebored most off the time as specs may be out, even on good ones or new ones... i think i know off one, but not NOS...

ok maybe "universal case." is the wrong term - I just mean the ones with the mount for a type2 - basiclly the same as the one in the manx  Wink Smiley

Its what Keith Seume recomends in his "VW perforamnce Handbook" he says they are the strongest VW made - I think they are also know as F.I cases  Huh Smiley

The Fuel Injection case isn't quite the same - it's the one with the back filled behind number 3 and no hole for the fuel pump. Standard fitment in late Karmann Cabs I think, and possibly late type 3s.

Late type 3's had the fuel pump hole there, the fuel pump wasnt mounted there though. I dont know what it is, I just threw it in the round file and stuck on 42's Wink

so you were inspired as well by that book to go and hunt for parts??? that book is the reason i have one myself. but i have made the hole in it to fit the type3 oilfiller, and i allready had a electric pump, so indeed no hole for the pump. and welded behind the 3th cylinder.
