For everyone that wanted to see the DRKC class make a come back, here it is. The rules for the 2008 California Look Challenge. Frenchy will be judging all the cars at our 4 events this year. I understand that these rules won't please everyone, but we feel it's a good place to start. Thanks, Steve Hole.

This class is for California look style Volkswagen sedans (type 1 & 3). It is a class for show quality, quick, street legal cars that don’t want to enter in our normal show classes. The cars will be judged and given a show score and then they will make at least 2 complete passes and their times will be input into a scoring program that will give a final score. We will have awards for 1st-3rd places, best show points and fastest time.

9. Carburetors bore must not exceed 52mm.
10. Fuel injection is not allowed.

The fastback is out due to fuel injection. Could be cool.

Why is this class called "cal-look"? And why isn't custom dashes allowed in a cal-looker?

I can see the point with back halved cars and coil overs, focusing on stock style torsion bars/dampers

I run my car with no headliner or carpet, my interior is completely painted and finished nicely but i can't play either. I also don't have a trailer so I couldn't make these events with my car anyway. Although I will attend each of them as crew chief for Team Bad Behavior S/G efforts. Jason

Way to go! Let the complaining begin.. Alot of effort will go into this event with very little payback for the Hole family. I'd be in if I didn't live 1000 miles away.. Perspective..

Save you undies Louisb, freedom of speech is alive and well at the lounge. As these rules are governing a competition for California-look cars, why wouldn't you get opinions on the rules? They sort of lay down a foundation to what you are supposed to think is a Cal-look, even tho you would not dream of entering. It's like I often have wondered, WHO owns California look? Every once in a while someone makes a set of rules, but within a couple of months new information emerges that prove the rules all wrong. My belief and hope, is that Callook belongs to the performer, and that the only
cal-look police
is the history/old photos.

We are getting a bit off topic, but what the 'ell. After reading a lot of the posts by all the first gen cal-lookers now hanging out here the whole what is, and what is not Cal-look thing to me seems pretty silly. Here we are, meaning the current gen of cal-lookers, trying to codify something that started out as an excuse to go drink beer and race cars with your buddies. These guys were trying to build cars that looked cool to them and their friends with what ever limited resources they had (remember, most of them were in or just out of high school), impress a few chicks when out cruising and blow the doors off some muscle cars. Throw in the occasional drag race and your set. To me that is Cal-look in its purest.

24. Cars will not have one-piece door windows.
25. Must have fender beading in between body and fenders.
26. No diesel powered engines.
27. Tires/tyres must contain air and nothing else.
28. Drivers will be human(s), only. NO exceptions.
29. Engines have to be lubricated by oil.(full flow, filters, and sumps are allowed)
30. Vehicles running on jet fuel(s) of ANY grade will not be tolerated. Points WILL be deducted and said cars shall be frowned upon.
Whew! I found the rest of the rules. Sometimes, addendum discovery is a good thing.

While I applaud the idea of a Cal Look challenge, there are so many cars that don't quite fit the rules that are very Cal Look, and probably an equal number that fit the rules that aren't. I would guess that they have been set to exclude "custom" or "full-on" race cars, but I don't know. Anyway, that'll do me.

It's time for the first ever Cal-look challenge game show. Click here>
« on: January 18, 2008, 09:01:42 AM »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello everyone! It's time for the first ever "Cal-look challenge" game show hosted by me. The object of the game is to test your Cal-look trivia by answering four questions related to a certain topic. The first person that POSTS ALL four answers correctly will receive a prize sent to your house or business absolutely free! What is the prize you ask?? Well this is a low budget game show so lets make it a Feb.08 issue of HVW's magazine sent directly to your house or business. FREE,FREE FREE!
O.K. lets get started , but first we need to chose a topic? I know the topic will be under "Door#1", "Bug-In Trivia."
Here are the four questions concerning "Bug In" for the first ever "Cal-look challenge" Good luck!
Question#1:
Who is the person responsible for starting the first Bug In at OCIR? First and last name please.
Question #2:
What is the date etched on the dash plaque that was handed out at that FIRST event.
Question #3:
When did Bug In 32 take place? I'm looking for the month/date/year.
Question #4:
This question will be a two part answer. 1.To help advertize Bug In 32, Kimball had a limited number of posters printed for this event. How many were printed? 2. On that poster shows a picture of three old OCIR ticket stubs that are red in color. What are the ticket numbers printed on them?
The first person that answers ALL these questions and posts them here WINS! GOOD LUCK ALL!
