What would you "call" this style hot rod sedan?

Imagine the pre-cal-look style car, stock height, full body trim as VW built 'em, BRM or D-Spoke mags, 165 XZX radials up front, Hurst nostalgia street legal "slicks" out back, stock interior trim aside from subtle tach, maybe later model (larger diam) shifter, race lap harnesses. But instead of the typical wimpy nostalgia 1300-1700cc job with Holley or Zenith, let's substitue in a 2442 full tilt, IDA's, Vertex, 1-7/8" header, heads made of 85% weld, C12 fuel, etc....
Wouldn't that be cool? Imagine a car, not quite a stocker sleeper, but with enough tire under rear fenders, some nice desireable wheels, and a ear-splitting Mason-style muffler jammed up under car and 235hp. Not a 1975, 1980, 1990 or 2008 style hot rod....more a 1966 hot rod Bug meets 2008 horsepower.... that's what this world needs.

honestly for me that is a big NONO.
i can't explain why, but i hate the thought of that. i like the car of denham??? the original one with weared body and paint and the diagonal tires and very big 2.7l engine.
but building a nice periodcorrect car and not going all the way sounds akward in my ears. if you can build the car and a big engine why not make it a better compromise. i have been thinking lately that it is not the size of the engine that make it callook or not. it is the overall package and spirit (we discussed it in previous posts and still don't know what it means, but everybody get's the idea of it...). i have found that i am really starting to like the oldschool callook look. i can't afford it or want to collect all the expensive parts (which are sometimes too expensive for what they are IMHO), but i sure get a kick of a nicely done car and i think there are still coming out cars that have the same feel as those done more then 30 - 35 years ago and still look fresh and inovative. i just dug up the pics of vegard's (Baboon) car up and i love it so much, the same with the supercharged car that has the little trumpet sticking out of the decklid (sorry forgot the guys name...
) two cars that i never imagined of building myself, but now really would like to see.
the example i always have as a 'standard' in my mind is hector bonilla's 67.
i would trade a lot of highdollar, and very fast cars for hectors' car with the kadronpowered 1641 he had in it. OK it is 'nicer' with the 2007cc engine, but not more callook to me.
there are some very fast cars that are build, even more in the US as over here, that have that modern draglook going and it is OK to me, but not my cup of tea. i wouldn't drive one or build one. i would rather drive a germanlook that is tastefully done. different, but it sprouts from the same idea as a callook. take a beetle and make it go fast. a callook is that for the quarter mile and a germanlook is that for a racetrack or circuitrace.
i am not sure if i express myself very well, but i hope i give you the idea of what i mean. i don't want to offend anyone by this, it is just how i look at it

been playing with the selacta as well but can't get the picture here...
your car would sit on 165's all round and on sprintstars/ SA sprintstars, but a steelwheel and have either full US bumpers are homemade t-bars. all holes would remain.

You have no right to make fun of this. I am very unhappy that Mr Ratto thinks this is funny.

That would be refreshing. That kind of an idea is also why I like that UK-based Inch Pincher replica a lot, nostalgia gasser but built to modern safety standards and performance.

Cool nicolas, I appreciate your opinion. If i built one like this it would be a nice painted car, such as Dave Galassi's, but with scary horsepower. I've always liked this "style"...very Volkswageny in appearance and feel, but with 12sec go-power.
I'm soooo bummed. I thought I had scary horsepower! It must just be me....................................
