Just curious if having Bug In every year would deter all the guys and gals from Europe and Japan from coming over each time, and what impact would it have on you all coming over for the Classic? How would everyone your travel plans?

I heard two different stories from promoters of this years event.
First was that it will be every other year so as not to "water down" the event.
Second version was that it will be made into a two day event with qualifying on Saturday and eliminations, etc., on Sunday.
Also it will be carefully scheduled as to not be the week before a points event or conflict with another event.
I guess we can only wait and see what happens.
From my own point of view,it was the racers that attended the Bug-in and the vintage people that went to the Classic.
And of course people that liked both.
I plan on attending both the Bug-in and Classic each year if possible.

We kinda do although it's not for high performance VWs it is fashioned after Bad Camberg.  On even numbered years the Golden Gate Chapter of the Vintage Volkswagen Club of America puts on a show at Solvang.  It is for 67 and earlier cars and the venue is fantastic.  Solvang is a small Danish town just north of Santa Barbara.  They are really into the vintage stuff.  I met Ratto there in '96 and except for dodging cow pies in the field it was great.  It is a three day event with a hospitality suite on Friday and show and awards banquet on Saturday then a wine tour on Sunday.  Just a lot of fun in the sun for everyone.

I spoke with Kimball on sunday at the show during fews minutes at the racer tent
he said to me that every 2 or 3 years was the best
I think so too
every 2 years was the best to have a lot worlwide visitor like us
I will try to come once a year to alternate bugin and vw classic week
every one I met in my caliornia trip said to me that I have to come for the classic this is not the same event but classic is bigger
true or not I have a lot of fun there
i will be back next year in june but if I had to choose I'll prefer to come for bug-in in april

Hi Don, yeah that was a fun weekend. I'm not much of a vintage VW guy but the quality of cars that show up is typically first rate. We were the "oddballs" that year, weren't we, twin Webers, Flat 4 BRMs.....

This year Sheep and I had passed around the idea of doing a high-perf cruise from my place in Simi, through the mountains and the Los Padres Forest over and up to Solvang. Now if Sheep's car is done by then remains to be seen.....

The Bug-In and the Classic.... apples and oranges. I'll take the Bug-In over the Classic any time.

Really? I always thought the Classic with all the other events around it was the one to hit.

I haven't attended one of the "new" Bug-Ins yet, but I have to say I will stick with Classic for the next years.

I can't afford to go to California every year so I go every other year. If I go, I want to have 10 days packed with VW action and only the Classic week can offer that right now. Maybe there will be more events around Bug-In in the future, but as long as it is only a weekend thing I won't come. Especially because we have now our own European Bug-In and I can attend it with MY car.

Just my two cents,

Georg

How about a once every four years camberg-esque meet for racers and lookers. i'd imagine it would be a whole week and based at pomona, the Wally Parks museum would be cleared out just for Russells collection. the strip would be open all 7 days 6am -8pm, there would be no down time, the outlaws and DAS would ship cars over for the event. Mr Komori would send his collection over too. the swapmeet would be full of original Empi/Speedwell parts. The Bergler would also be re-united with all the other Berg cars................................ ok now I'm just making it up Grin
