I have a complete split case gearbox.  I need to take it apart to get the axles out.

I have never used this type of gearbox before, so i am stuck.

Undone all nuts and bolts that join the two halves together.  Axle tubes are stuck on the axle shafts via the spacer near the bearing.  Do these need to come off before it can be split?

I have broken the seal all the way round, but it won't budge.

spacers need to come off at bearing - unbolt bell's on side of cases - need large snap ring pliers to remove snap ring under bell's - then you can remove thrust plate - then you will be able to remove axles w/fulcrum plates - case does not need to be split to remove axles -

The bearings may also be "stuck" I had ALOT of trouble pulling my bearing off the axles - they were not stuck in the housings as I could spin the outer casing - my tip is take the drums/hubs apart inc the bearings then go from there Smiley

this is an early gearbox, i understand i do need to split gearbox to remove axles.

no brakes or hub seals fitted, already removed. hitting axle tube has not moved spacer!

i am sorry but you do need to split the trans - then get into the ring gear assembly - then you can remove them - lube the spacers  with wd40 and let them sit - if you are going for the axles only - same as early 40hp axles - just talked to my trany guy - he said lots of fun  Tongue
